| Poor little guy... Samson, our almost 8-month-old yorkie, got his berries picked (neutered) this morning and he had no idea it was even coming. Poor guy!!! He'd been doing fine in the housebreaking department for about three weeks, and then all of a sudden, he started peeing in the house 1-2 times a night. Even if we took him outside and he went 3-4 times, he'd still come in and pee 20 minutes, 30 minutes later. We took him to the vet this past Monday to make sure nothing was wrong bladder-wise. They checked him for kidney failure, but were 99% sure he was just marking. Sure enough, they checked his urine and it had sperm in it!!!!!!! Our little baby has hormones racing through him like crazy. So, we decided it was time. He went in this morning, had the surgery and was out by 10:15am. They said everything went well, and they also took out two of his baby teeth that hadn't come out on their own. When I spoke to the vet this morning, she said he was waking up and had already walked around his cage a bit. I was upset, though, because they wouldn't keep any of his bedding, toys or anything familiar to him when we dropped him off this morning. We were hoping they'd keep him in his own crate with his own bedding, but no such luck. I feel so sad because I miss him already and want to take care of him. He stays at the vet overnight and we'll get him back tomorrow (Friday) afternoon/evening. I know he woke up all disoriented and in pain and I just want to cuddle with him and have him home. |

| Poor baby. It's weird that they had to keep him overnight. I was able to take mines home the same day. Are you allowed to visit him? |

| They keep him overnight to monitor him and administer his pain meds. While I am missing him terribly, I love that he'll be in such great care. Plus, he'll be able to rest better there instead of at home where he tends to run around and play. However, tomorrow evening can't come fast enough!! I don't know if I can visit, I didn't ask. I didn't want to seem like a crazy lady who couldn't leave her baby boy for one night - haha!! |

| At least it went well! Is there somebody there all night with him watching? I got to bring Ellie home the same day (and spaying is harder on them than neutering) after her spay and liver biopsy. She did fine.

| Yes, someone stays there all night with him, which I am so glad about. If there wasn't, I would definitely be bringing him home tonight. I know he's probably so out of it, which is why I'm glad he's staying overnight. I wouldn't want to worry about him anymore than I am already. I'm sure if I saw him like that I'd be even more upset. | Captain Jack had his "berries picked" a couple of weeks ago. They kept him overnight. We don't have any emergency vets in our area so they kept him to monitor him, just in case. (it was done about an hour away) I think part of it was because he was only a little over 5 months old too. But I wanted to go ahead and have it done because he started lifting his leg when he was barely 5 months old I did not want him to get in the habbit of that!!! He usually squats now. He will still occasionally lift his leg, but the vet says he will probably stop all together. They say it takes about 6 weeks for all of the horomone to get out of their system, so maybe your little guy will stop marking!!! good luck! Jessica

| Spoke with one of the nurses at the vet this morning and she said Samson is doing really well. He's eating very good for them, moving about in his cage and his incision looks good. YAY!!! I'm very excited to see him this evening. God, you all have me terrified that me may not stop marking in the house even after all the hormones get out of his system. What are we going to do if that happens??? |

| Oh, that was a good one, "his berries picked", and one I haven't heard before. I'm so glad that everything went well and I know you can't wait to see him. Bailey goes for his neuter on Nov.4th and he will have to stay overnight also.

| Cooper Stopped marking after his neutering and he was 8 months old. He was awful before. I had belly bands on him all the time. Now he is better. Sometimes he lifts his leg outside and sometimes he doesn't so it is hard to tell if he goes. He has a funny little "stance" that he takes on that he uses to go. Not a squat. he like stretches out or something kind of funny. Anyway. Don't be discouraged. they are all different. Glad his surgery went well.
