| how to get your yorkie to stay still while they take the halloween picture? so i had a bad experience yesterday at petsmart http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/general-yorkshire-terrier-discussion/149902-would-you-mad-too.html but i am not going to let that bad experience deter me from showing my baby off and taking a good halloween picture. my question is, how do you get your baby to sit still for 2 seconds, (hopefully petco has better camera) while they snap the picture? any suggestions? thank you

Senior Yorkie Talker | Honestly, Angelo does better if I take them at home or in a place where he is away from BIG dogs. I put the costume on, let him wonder around the house, and relax. Now get a squeakier toy, and your camera ready. Once ready to snap the pic, squeak the toy. Usually they will turn towards you will a "pretty" face.

| I tell Maximus to lay or sit (however you want him for pic) with a treat in my hand. Say good boy. Then I put the treat in between my eyes and say watch me but he's really watching the treat. Then I take the picture. Say good boy and give him the treat. We take so many pics, he has it down.

| I think it's really helpful to teach your furbutt to sit and stay. Then all you have to do is have them sit and use a squeaky toy to get his/her attention. It doesn't take long to teach them. I use treats when I use the command and make them sit..they get the idea pretty quickly. Good luck!

| thank you for all the suggestions! yes, one of the problems is that milu knows the sit command, but not the stay command. but even if she understands the command, i don't think i will be able to get her to listen when she is so excited to see all the people and dogs at the store... what is the trick to teaching the stay command? it is for the yorkie to hold the previous command you gave it right? how to best teach the stay command? thank you so much!

| It's tough when you try to do pictures outside of their home. There is so much going on and being the curious, social butterflies that they are, they want to be in the middle of it all. Two suggestions: 1) Wear her out as much as you can before you go. 2) Then go early and take her all around the store so that she has plenty of time to see, smell and settle down. Good Luck and please post the pictures!!

| I had a horrible picture taken at PetSmart too. Bella would not stay still. Not to mention, they had an ugly metal folder chair instead of a stool, so you can't even see the cheesy background. You just see the back of the folding chair. If/when I go to PetCo, I am going to ask if we could get the picture taken BEFORE I pay. Not that $5 is a lot, but just a waste the other night.

does anyone know? milu is my first puppy, so i am trying to do everything with her. but i don't know if the cheap setup is the for norm for these big chain stores? maybe that's why not too many people took their dogs there?

| I think, sadly, it's maybe a matter of "you get what you pay for". I go to Petsmart every Christmas for their Santa pictures and although they aren't great, they aren't too bad. A charity does the pictures and most of the money goes to them and the Santa is usually always a happy guy that tries real hard to get the best pose of the dogs. I don't expect much so I'm not usually too disappointed. They are fairly cheesy, but then I think that's part of the humor of having doggie Santa pictures.

well, it's not like people can opt to pay more for non-cheesy pictures my friend took her dog there, and she ended up taking the camera from the guy and snapping pictures herself. lol, and when she handed the camera back to him she said "you guys need better cameras" lol , he agreed, lol!

| I understand about wanting to do everything with her; Bella is my first puppy too. I am thinking of searching for a local photographer who will do a nice photo I can put on my Christmas cards. One that will (for a price) take the time to get a few good photos.
