Default Is TWO really better than ONE?

Okay, we are getting close to me finally bringing home a sibling for Esme, (probably a male). Those of you with experience, please tell me the PROS and CONS of having more than one doggie. Please be HONEST.

I feel the same was as you. We just brought home our new male pup last night and all the week before I was nervous. Wondering if the two would get along, if two would be too much, how would Daisy feel? Is two better than one?........

So I will be watching the replies to this thread as well.

All the best.

We adopted our chihuahua mix when Mojo was 7 months...they never ever get into a fight. They were always together...Mojo had sooo much more fun with him...it wasn;t that much of a difference caring for 2, i mean, i already had a routine with Mojo so i only added a extra body to the routine Now that he left Mojo still misses him and looks for him, same with Byron...i can't wait to get my new yorkie

My two are really great company for each other. Of course they play hard together sometimes. They always sleep together. They get into trouble together. Jewels is more the baby and Chachi is the alpha.

I have a male Maltese and a female Yorkie and I've never seen any dogs love each other the way my 2 dogs do. They are ALWAYS kissing and playing or cuddling together. It's just the cutest thing.

We have a male pom which we've had since a pup. He is 6 now. We then added our little Zoe our first yorkie and Pogo our second yorkie. (They both arrived on the same day). Next, more through a fluke than anything else (a settlement on a bad pup deal) Cammie came home. She was our third yorkie. Unfortunately (or fortunately) despite our best efforts, Pogo got Cammie and Cammie had a single pup about 3 weeks ago - Willy. Well, Willy will be staying with us. I have another yorkie girl coming on the second for a total of 5 yorkies and 1 pom.
All of my dogs love each other; we have no real jealousy issues; they play together so well; I want more lol. Chris has put his foot down though and said I have to stop at 6.

I have two girls I would have to YES two is defintely better than one....

Pros: double the love and kisses, twice the laughter and entertainment, they will learn to play with each other and entertain themselves more, double the shopping (yea!!), and most important...double of all the greatness of Yorkies!!

Cons: of course, double the money on vets, food, expenses, it may take a while to get used to each other...double the clean up (with peeing and poop)

I would defintely say that all the pro out weigh the cons...getting Sailor was probably the best decision I ever made!!

Two is better than one!

Pros: Double loves and kisses, they amuse each other, the guilt of leaving them home alone for even a minute is lessened, they are so excited to see each other every morning.

Cons: Double food, toys & vet bills. More poop & pee to clean. Potty training *another Yorkie* It's harder to take 2 along in the car. And the biggest con to me is a selfish one. I miss having just one puppy to take everywhere with me, especially work. It's so much more difficult (to me) to take 2 that I end up leaving them home more often than I left Sophie when she was an only.

Still, the pros much outweigh the cons. At first, I couldn't imagine loving another puppy asmuch as I love Sophie, but I'm getting there! Daisy is just precious and even though she's much smaller than Sophie, she can stand her ground and hang with her through all the hussle and tussle they do.

EDIT: When I finished typing this, I turned around and both puppies are asleep in the floor, cuddled up with one another

I am VERY nervous right now... I am about to go visit with a breeder that I have been emailing back and forth and I am getting cold feet! I want Esme to have a companion, but at the same time I scared to make a bad choice... On top of that, my husband has no opinion about it. He says he is okay whether we get another one, or not. Atleast if I had someone supporting me or telling me I am insane...

I was very excited, as was hubby, when our second, Taz, came to live with us. JPop was definitely spoiled and a real mommy's baby. At first I really thought we had made a huge mistake because JPop didn't like his new little brother at all! I had to keep them seperated unless someone was there to supervise them. Now Taz has started to grow a bit (he's 13 wks now) and can pretty much hold his own. I think he will be a pound or two bigger than JPop. Now they play together and have a good ole time. My problem is that Taz is so much different from JPop as a puppy. JPop was very calm, sweet and would let me rock him wrapped in a blanket. Not Taz! I can hardly pet him he bites so much.......and don't even think about brushing him! He's cute as a bug, but I really don't know what to do about these bad habits; maybe he'll outgrow them?? As far as doing it over, yes I would. And Taz will be bred with my daughters yorkie, Kitti-Kitti who is JPop's sister, next year, so I may end up with #3.

You go and see that breeder and pick out a little darling companion for your yorkie. When I first started with yorkies some 25 years ago I only had one at a time. Through a fluke we ended up taking a rescue dog, not a yorkie, and it because immediately apparent that my yorkie was in seventh heaven now that she had someone to help her terrorize the neighbourhood. I've had multiples ever since. Sometimes as many as four at a time. I presently have two yorkies and I swear those two are glued together with crazy glue. They are always side by each, they love each other to death and god help you if you look like you might be doing something to one that the other is happy about, ie washing their face. You will be given a very stern lecture throughout the entire procedure.

Sadly our oldest gal is suffering from advanced senility and the meds aren't working so she will be leaving us soon. I have already found and purchased a new companion for my remaining yorkie as I do not want him to go through the grief of being alone. I pick up the new baby on Thursday and hope that my old gal who is the boss of absolutely everything will get great joy from having the pup to mother and boss in her last weeks.

So you go for it.

Our two are 5 weeks apart in age. We had our first yorkie Mocha for 15 1/2 years before she passed away & I always knew that when the time came I would get two rather than raise one alone again. I always felt so guilty when I would have to leave Mocha home alone. Now, even though I am not running around like crazy since my kids are all grown, I don't feel so bad leaving Stormy & Kodah home together. They still sit & wait for me & act like I have been gone for days when I go anywhere, but they at least have each other to pass the time with! My two love to go with me & taking two is a little harder, but it's because I need a larger bag - Kodah nips at Stormy if she thinks she is crowding her a little! (Storm can't help that she's 4 lbs & Kodah is only two - Kodah thinks she should be able to stretch out anytime she wants in the bag!!) My son was over the other night watching them play & commented that he will never just have one!!!! Yes, you will have a couple of moments when you think "what was I thinking getting another one" but those times disappear as you watch them become BEST OF FRIENDS!!!
