picking up the new puppy!

Day 4

I took the dog to socialize with a friends Jack Russel Terrier last night, went ok (the other Terrier is an adult and very nervous - but just avoided the puppy).

Last night the puppy slept for 5 hours straight (best night of sleep for me in awhile).

I'm starting to crate more during the day so that the dog gets used to the idea. Its crate for 1 - 2 hours then food/potty time/play time, repeat. It seems to be working well.

Good sign today! The puppy started to scratch wildly at a door and it confused me for a moment, then i saw her start to squat! I snapped her up (thankfully it was a poo so it was slow to start) and got her outside. The idea that outside is for potty is gaining a foothold.

I also attempted the first 'walk on a leash in the yard', it went - uh... as good as can be expected.

I have some play dates setup with some friends (fully vaccinated) dogs so that she can start to socialize more. I also want to find people of all races and people in uniform so that she gets used to all kinds of people.

She seems to be doing well, and i'm trying to stay calm assertive at all times when she is around.

Day 5

The puppy slept for 7 HOURS at night! I feel so rested. If this holds up i'll be able to sleep through the whole night by the end of the week.

Well its 5am, i need to sleep some more

Congradulations on your new baby ! she is adorable. Your going to have so much fun with her ! with a girl you get to dress her up and everything ! She is doing very well adjusting, and sleeping good during the night
I never crate trained my puppy and use pee pads , she is now 7 months old ans stll moves around at night... Suzi sleeps in my bed too.

Congratulations on your new puppy. You are sure a good mommy! You can look into puppy classes, and puppy socials to take her if you are interested, it will help them become socialized.

Yeah i want to! I was looking into puppy day care so she could get a chance to socialize with other pups.

So last night Diane... slept through the entire night (and then some!) She held it for at least 8 hours. Good girl! Even more odd, i found her at 5am awake in her crate and playing. I opened the door but she was like "nah, i'm good - go back to bed human"

The odd part about this though, is that when she goes outside she poo's twice. So its 'poo, pee, poo'. She is a very strange monkey.

I took Milu to sirius dog training (puppy I) it was pretty good, the only bad thing was milu was the only small dog there, and I think she learned to be afraid of bigger dogs there. (which in a way is good i guess, since playing with bigger dogs unsupervised can be dangerous for these little ones, unless you REALLY know that the big dog is gentle and trust worthy)

I also take her to puppy socials once or twice a week, I get to watch her play with other dogs there. It's really cute.

Sounds as though you are well on the right track to having a well behaved, well socialized little girl...Diane...different...but I like different. Keep up the good work!!!
