| Welcome home Schatzie!!!!!! We are so glad you updated us on Schatzie's condition after surgery. Poor little baby. Our prayers are with both you and Schatzie :-) Has she gotten up to walk yet? How long did the vet say it would be before she will be able to walk normally without pain? Was it her leg or hip that was fixed? Yes, the little whine for the pain must be so heartbreaking and we hope that Schatzie has a quick recovery! :-) Tinkerbell and Annie |

Tinkerbell and Annie, thank you kindly for checking up on Schatzie. I am so thrilled today to be able to say she had the charming bright look in her eyes today and seems to be feeling so much better! She even placed her butt up in the air with her front paws sprawled growling at her toys...It's such a great sight to see. Schatzie is only allowed to walk to the potty pad. She will be pretty much in her kennel for up to two months. Yes, it was her hip. The femoral bone inside the hip died and became jagged due to lack of blood flow. The term for this is Legges Perthes Disease. She actually placed all 4's down on the floor today, I had not seen her do that for almost a month so each day is getting better. Thank you again for checking up on her - Your thoughtfulness is so much appreciated!!

I have a question..... Do you know if the procedure that Schatzie had is covered under pet insurance? I was wondering if it is consider congential? Or, pre-existing? I am getting the feeling that Tinkie may have something wrong with her hips because she keeps licking and biting them all day long (she must do it more than 10 times an hour). However, she jumps, jumps from furniture, and runs like the dickins. I am going to inquire about this with her vet when she goes in for her pre-surgical tests prior to her getting fixed. Do you know if there is a blood test that can be done to pin point this disease or do they have to take xrays? Thanks for you impute..and we are soooo happy to hear that Schatzie is doing much better today and will continue to pray for her quick recovery!!!

| Great news! Glad to hear Schatzie is doing so well. As she get better and she still is trying to pull her stiches, ask the Vet if there is some spray you can put on it that tastes bad so she won't bite it. My 15 year chow-mix Lucky every once in a while she will get a lick spot on her leg and would lick it forever and I have to put some spray the Vet gave me that tastes real bad ( I tasted it lol) and after a couple of days she will quit licking it. Will her heart and your love for her she will back to her self before you know it. Thanks for the updates................Cindy |

Hi babygirlyorkie, I honestly do not know if this is covered under insurance as I do not have any for our pets. I sure would like to think so though. Legges Perthes can be brought on by a injury or being hereditary. (Terrier's are very known to this disease) The only way to diagnose is by a x-ray from your vet. Schatzie too ran like the dickens, jumped, played, never acted indifferent, except she would carry her leg up and not use it. (It's amazing how fast they can go on just three legs).. Carrying the leg, biting at the hip/leg, or irritability is a sign. Normally this disease is present in Yorkies 5-11 months of age. I hope this info helps you and thanks for Schatzie's wishes!!

| I talked to Schatzie's vet today and he said that she is to come out of her kennel and begin using her bad leg as much as she wants. He say's the more she uses it the stronger it will get. So, she's off and running. Can't tell you how much that scares me, but I will try her vet on this one. He also said she could bath, Thank goodness, she needed it. So to her dislike she was loaded down with the bubbles and once done with that we took a couple pictures today. They are posted below... She is resting now, but it is so nice that she can again, have free run in the house and not be locked up. Thanks again for checking up on her.
