| Retained Testicle I have read previous posts on this issue. My question is my yorkie is 6 mo old and has only one dropped testicle. Has anyone had their yorkie neutered with this problem? Is the incision small or long? What did it cost you? How long does it take for them to recover? Also when do they recommend you change them to adult food after neutering, is it still at 12 months? Any info on this would be greatly appreciated. |

| We almost went through the undescended testicle thing but it thankfully dropped at the last minute. The way the surgery was described to me was that they would make a small incision and remove the testicle that was obviously present. Then they would make another small incision in the loin area where the other one should have dropped from with the hopes that it just got caught up there on the way down. If it wasn't there then a large incision would be made in the abdomen and they would then search for the lost one. I remember someone saying that their little boy had gone through this issue but I can't remember who it was. I do recall though them saying that it wasn't nearly as bad as the way it sounded and their little guy made a nice recovery. I have no idea in regard to the cost your vet should be able to give you an estimate before you agree to the procedure.

| same problem here!! i have the same problem with my little guy munch, he will be 6 months on the 23rd and neither of his has dropped so we will be looking into surgery for him also . i havent gotten all the details yet cause i have been waiting for him to lose as many teeth as he can so we can have any that are left pulled at the same time. my vet said there is a greater chance of cancer if they are left up inside. and i really hate the thought of him having surgery he weighs right at 5# and he looks so little next to my other dogs who are 10# pluse. but i know it needs to be done. i would apperciate any other info that anyone has on this subject. thank you lynne

| Hi: My first home-bred Yorkie pup had a retained testicle. I waited until he was almost two to neuter him because I had heard the surgery could be so difficult. He had the two incisions as described by above. He went through the surgery with flying colors and I was only sorry I waited so long. I have heard of testicles dropping up until they're a year old, but I've learned that it's rare for anything to change after 6 months. Good luck. CJ |

| The cost for a retained testile surgery is the same as a spaying surgery because the vet have to open to see where it is locate . Snoopy , the little Yorkie of my friend Lynn have had this surgery and he is fine . |

| Thanks for the info. My 6 mo old weighs approx 3 1/2 lbs. I guess I will go ahead and check with the vet to have it done. I dont want to wait too long. |
