| Gentle Leader Harness Does anyone use the gentle leader for their furbaby? Pebbles pulls horribly when she goes for walks and the vet suggested it for her. I purchased one and have been using it and it works so well for her. She's was instantly a walking not pulling and she even sat down prior to crossing the street. But I am wondering if how it fits will cause problems with the trachea.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | the gentle leader will not cause any problems to the trachea as it doesn't go across their necks (unless you have a different one then the one i'm thinking of). it goes over their nose and then clips behind the ears. this is VERY effective and i recommend it to all our clients with dogs that are bad on leash.

| I have one for my lab and it works wonderfully. I have an issue with one of my Yorkies pulling and never realized they make them that small? Would these fit a Yorkie under 4lbs?

| They make XS for dogs under 5 lbs. Pebbles is over 10 lbs and I originally purchased a S and exchanged it for the XS. She is larger in her body and not so much in her head if that makes any sense They make it in beige and when she has it on people don't even notice it.

| I find the sensation harness is the best- A trainer told me about it and said it was better than the gentle lead- you can order it online. Keoki was the worst walker and the minute I put that harness on he was like a different dog!!! I really like it but you have to keep an eye on them because they have a tendency to stretch so you always have to check that they are tight before you put them on. There are no concerns with the trachea and the sensation harness |

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | I'm a fan of the gentle leader (I haven't seen the sensation harness but will check it out). I've never used on on the Yorkies, but I got one for my Lab and it's worked wonders with him. Plus, I think that once they learn how to walk without pulling, you can go back to a regular harness if you want.

| I just bought the Gentle Leader for my pup and have received a ton of opposition from him.. I watched the DVD several times so I've followed the the instructions & tips in the video... I want to know how long it took for your dogs to get used to it??? Did you receive opposition? If so, what did you do to get them comfortable walking in it (besides what they say in the video)... I think I was expecting an overnight miracle, but the first day we wore it, he threw a tantrum and refused to budge on our walk. thanks for your help! |

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | I haven't tried one on my Yorkie yet, but I used one on my Lab. It does take a little time. And the ones I've seen never get to the point where they ignore it completely. However, it's still a good idea if you've got a puller. I don't know what they say in the video, but I'd suggest putting it on him without the leash for a while. Let him walk around the house with it. Distract him with treats, games, toys. Start out with just 5 minutes, then increase it. Once he gets to the point where he tolerates, then move to the leash for short walks. When on leash, be satisfied with just a fews steps at first. Then praise and treat. Always end the practice sessions on a positive note -- a treat for a few steps. Someone just gave me one to try on my Yorkie, so I'll give it a shot and share any experiences with you. Good luck.

| thanks alaskayorkie! I will definitely try leaving it on him around the house to get more comfortable with it. I feel bad for doing it because he looks miserable but I know its not hurting him. if you do try the gentle leader on your yorkie, let me know how it goes and what works for you! |

| Would the gentle leader help with other behavior issues... like... going insane with barking when he sees another dog?

If you solve the barking issue, though, let me know! Jack is a terrible yapper. And CharBar, even my Lab still paws at it, and I've had him on it all summer. In fact, a friend has a service dog that she uses one on, and he even paws at it. But she ensures me it doesn't hurt them, and it serves a higher purpose (no pulling), so it's worth a little discomfort. I'll let you know how Eddie does. I'm going to try it on him this week.
