You show 'em who rules Pebbles. I admire you for keeping quiet, I can't. Pebbles is soooo much smarter than their dogs...and you know it and just kept it to yourself. Good job! Pebbles probably doesn't need those classes anyway!

After the negative experience you had with your last class, I agree with you that I would hang in there with this class and this instructor. What if when the next person who thinks they are so very funny with their "quick wit" makes a hurtful comment, look at Pebbles and say directly to her (and of course so the offender can hear!), "Don't let him hurt your feelings sweetheart. He doesn't really mean to be rude, he is just jealous of your brains, beauty, and kind heart." Then look at your offender and smile sweetly and say, "Don't feel bad, Pebbles doesn't hold a grudge against people say rude things to her. By the way, I noticed that your dog is ..." and find something to compliment their dog on. Whether it seems like their dog is kind natured, or has a pretty coat, or seems excited to be at class - it doesn't matter what - every dog has something wonderful about them. Find it and point it out to their owner. Kill them with kindness. As for Pebbles clothing - it is so totally a matter of YOUR preference. As long as the clothes don't get in the way of her training, it shouldn't matter to anyone else. However, I would save the formal-wear for graduation night when she is class valedictorian! I am a huge Pebbles fan - don't let other peoples ignorance upset you, because Pebbles will sense that you are upset, and that will take the fun out of this new adventure.

You said Pebbles was doing really well with the actual lessons - that is wonderful! What are you working on with her this week? I am proud of you for the way you worked to find this class - hang in there and enjoy your Pebbles time!!!

I know, it is upsetting after all I went through to find this class. thanks for the support.. this week she is learning how to heel and sit after heeling... she is doing very well with it. im supposed to train her 3 times a day for 5-10 minutes. she is really getting the hang of it!! next week she will learn how to stay after sitting.. and something else

Try to ignore those dummys, they're the ones that have self-esteem issues.

You chose your dog and they chose theirs. They wouldn't like it if you said.."how many people has your big dog killed?.. would they. Besides Pebbles is adorable and obviously smarter than theirs.

JMO but when taking them to a class, maybe it would be best to leave the fru fru at home, and just concentrate on the class. there is a time and place for everything and this was an obedience class, not a fashion show.

If someone over dressed their child for school, the child would no doubt get negative comments also, and maybe even pushed in the mud puddle.

I don't mean to sound negative and i am not defending the rudef comments, just looking at it from the other side.
I dress her everyday so I didnt see it was being overdressed. I also took into account that it was a class and put her in a very simple casual dress that just had polka dots for decoration and a few casual patches. There was no tulle or crystals or glitter. I dont know, I didnt see it as me wanting attention for her because she gets attention even if shes naked. I just like to dress her up--she has a lot of clothes and bows and I like to use them. I see what youre saying but if you saw the outfit you wouldnt think it was too fancy.

I know we should just brush it off, but I just dont know what kind of permission people have to make these comments. I mean, I dont walk up to our neighbor and his boxer and say "Are you walking an underfed cow?" or how about "My car could run over your dog."
Hahahaha that made me laugh.. good stuff

[QUOTE=Wylie's Mom;2203054]That's right! And, you can even take the trainer aside and speak to her alone, if you don't want to do the group thing. She is the leader of that class and should foster RESPECT for you AND all the animals, for gosh sakes!

I also want to pat your back for STANDING your ground with the harness instead of what they were using.

You should share your words with the trainer .... YOU are there to learn with your baby, not be a subject for negative ignorant comments!

I hope your baby tops all of them! Yeeeaaa!

Glad you stayed in the class, let that little one show them up!! As for the clothes, maybe training time isn't the best, but that still doesn't excuse the rudeness of these people. I probably would have thought of a quick comment to throw back at them.. You enjoy your class and consider the source on those remarks.. I think you did a good job!

Those people don't bother me at all!!! Who cares what these people think. That is your baby. I've had people tell me Otis isn't a yorkie because he's big. I just laugh! I don't care what he is, I love him and he loves me! There are so many things to worry about in life, don't let what people say or think about your baby get to you!!

I personally like to see them dressed up. I was just pointing out the way others might have looked at it.

When I dress mine up and take them out, I expect to get lots of attention and would consider anyone who made negative remarks to be jealous.

I use the Gentle Leader of my Pebbles and it really does work great. I bought the tan color and when she had it on you can't even really see it. It just blends in with her hair on her face. The reason I started using it with her was she was pulling so horribly that I was afraid she would hurt herself or pull and get away from me. If you wanted to try the gentle leader I don't think I would use it the first time during class. You should work with her a little at a time while at home.

Pebbles didn't like it at first either but now she know that when I take it out she is going for a walk. That is the only time we use it though.

They do all sound like morons.

That's silly! Why would you use a gentle leader on such a small dog?!? We've learned to use these at the dog shelter, and we're only suppose to use them when a dog is hard to handle on a leash. It's not going to hurt them at all, it's main purpose is to have better control. But with a small dog like a yorkie, how can you not have at least some control?
Personally, I don't know if I would dress my dogs, but that's just me! However, I do think that some of the puppies I've seen here in their cute outfits are just adorable! Just cause they don't personally practice it doesn't mean they have a right to make you feel bad. If your Pebbles is as darling as your avatar, then they are blind! She is adorable and are just jealous they don't have the creativity to dress up their babies!

I forgot to add, I'm glad you stuck to using your own harness. And the gentle leaders I'm use to using we only use with large dogs that are not use to walking on a leash and/or when the dogs are stronger than they realize. They can be so strong sometimes and can't seem to understand why I keep falling over when I try to walk them!
