upset by some comments made today

Pebbles is so cute....how old and big is she? Bam bam is sweet too. Just ignore those comments sometimes I think they are just jealous because they are so cute!! I love their names!!

I know it wasnt very bad but everyone stared at her the entire time really and kept making comments, and the big dog owners kept saying their dog wanted to eat my dog because she "looked like a cake" or something.

Is it wrong of me to want to be treated like every other dog owner and not be antigonized for dressing my dog. I also got picked on because her harness is not standard and plain black or red. It's a pretty one from Glamourdog.com and the trainer almost didn't let me use it--but I proved to her that pebbles walks very well in her harnesses and that they actually work thankyouverymuch. I dunno, I'm just upset. I don't like my baby being compared to a chicken, especially when that chicken is literally being eaten

do you get upset by negative comments about your dog or do you just brush it off? I know I shoudn't take it personally, but I do. I'm not going to cancel the class because we did learn stuff and I think the teacher is very good despite her obvious prejudice against dogs wearing clothes

Well, I'd have a little private chat with the trainer and demand some respect, no comments, everyone treated the same, and if I didn't get that, I'd find another class and ask for my money back. What you do with your dog is your business and no one else's. You paid your money and you deserve the same training as everyone else without any comments. It's harassment, plain and simple, and no one has to put up with it. You aren't there for everyone else's benefit and you didn't ask for anyone's opinion. Stand up for your rights! The trainer should be seeing that no one is getting picked on or made uncomfortable.

I signed up for an obedience class one time with my Chihuahua. The class was in October in a big, open building without any heat. It was in the low 40's and very cold in the building. My Chi was a house dog, not used to being outdoors in the cold. He was shivering and consequently didn't want to do the things he was supposed to do. He was very smart and very well trained and could easily do everything, but he was uncomfortable and I knew it. I pulled him out of the class and got my money back. The rest of the dogs were big dogs, shepherds and labs, etc., and the cold didn't bother them. The trainer was very nice about it and said she could tell that my dog was uncomfortable.

I wouldn't worry about it. She's probably dressed better than most of the people there. IF it's hot though - I'd let her go naked

I understand how you feel, we all get these types of comments from people, family, friends, co-workers, strangers, etc...
You have to brush it off and not let it get to you and just stay focused on the training at hand! If the trainer was making alot of those comments, then I would say something! If the others keep up with the comments, I agree that you should pull the trainer aside and ask them to address the group!

We just enrolled Camden in a basic obedience class and her first one is tomorrow. There are going to be 2 Bull Mastiffs, a Boxer, Sheltie, Australian cattledog and a Dauschand in the class! So she's going to be the smallest, I can't wait to see what kind of comments we get!

Just keep smiling and KNOW you have something THEY WISH THEY WOULD HAVE GOTTEN. Yorkies are the best - period - anyone that interacts with them, feel this.

And wish they wouldnt have gotten that big ass doberman.

I had a few run-ins with people I used to work with making snotty comments about money I might spend on my dogs or how I treated them and I put a stop to it right quick by asking them how much they spent on golf equipment, fishing boats, cigarettes, booze, the things they liked. I told anyone right quick that how I spend my money is my business and when they can show me a fishing boat that gives them kisses and keeps their feet warm on a cold winter night, then we'll talk about how I treat my dogs. Everyone has things they like and that they justify spending money on and spending time doing. I'm a very private person and making comments about how I live or spend my time or money isn't a good thing to do. Just ask some of the people who have tried it!!

How HEINOUS! I absolutely DETEST how people think just because you put your dog in a purse or put it in clothes you are treating the dog as a fashion accessory. Dog purse: Same thing as a carrier, just prettier.

Just ignore those big dog owners. I've had experiences with them, and the majority of the I-hate-cute-little-dogs population are hill billies. They don't know much of anything when it comes to dogs, from what I've noticed:
"Dawgs aer s'posed to protect tha house, it's der purpose!" And little dogs can't do that.

One at an obedience class kept calling my Lily (a smaller-than-most mini schnauzer) a rat. A rat? What should I call his dog? A kangaroo? Maybe a horse? His dog was HUGE and honestly, your typical brown-and-white mutt. And it wasn't well behaved at all. It didn't listen and didn't stay still. Oh, thanks for showing me from what I'm missing, smart guy.

Trust me, there's nothing better than a tiny little yorkie. You have the dog of my dreams. Seriously, I've been aching for a yorkie just like Pebbles for a long time.

Just blow 'em off. For God's sake, they're talking about their dogs ***eating chickens and wanting to eat tiny dogs**.

My dad loves my Yorkie! He brings her for car rides and even if everybody is watching, he picks her up and babies her in front of all his friends and he babytalks to her when eveybody is around. Of course everybody laughed and made stupid comments but my dad just told them if you had a dog like this, you'd do the same thing to, becuase you cant help but love it to peices. Now nobody makes the rude comments and some of them even say they want to hold her (But not when theres anybody else around)


I say just tell them you dont like it.. If they still do it, then maybe you should consider leaving the class. Some people are so ignorant. I get good comments all the time because Keely is better dressed than i am. But most of the tines its bad comments. Even from my mother, but i dont care, my dog, my rules.

Because of how tight it has to be, whether it is right over the neck not, I just do not like it at all. And on the demonstration video I thought they said even in humans if something was around your upper neck and it was that might, I wouldn't bother you either. I tried it and it definately wasn't comfortable. I wouldn't use one either.

Holy Crap to say the very least. I am so sorry you had to endure such nasty comments from people. Also, the trainer seems quite unprofessional with his comments. Why didnt he try to get the rest of the class to cease and desist with the comments. I would try to get out said class asap with a full refund. I didnt read the whole thread so i dont know if its a class offered by a national chain. Hope it all works out for you.

Sheesh! I can't believe how rude people can be...so sorry to hear that you had to go through that with Pebbles. It's already stressfull enough to be in a class training with all these much larger dogs and then to top that off...to have all these unnecessary comments made to you. If at all possible I would try to ignore it (which may be difficult).

Initially I was planning to enroll Cassi in a training class, but b/c she did not have all her shots back then, I've decided to see if I can train her on my own. Fortunately yorkies are a very smart breed and she's certainly a fast learner. So far I've taught her to sit, lay down, roll over, play dead, crawl, give me paw, come over, stay, and of course fetch. I've only trained her 10-15 minutes each day and took as many 10-15 tries before she learned the command. Best of luck with your class, if that doesn't work you can try to train her at home on your own... Seriously I found them to be really smart dogs and they learn really quickly.
