Those people were very rude. But you say you hate the negative attention (which I'm sure everyone does), but did you dress her up because you were wanting people to fuss over her?

JMO but when taking them to a class, maybe it would be best to leave the fru fru at home, and just concentrate on the class. there is a time and place for everything and this was an obedience class, not a fashion show.

If someone over dressed their child for school, the child would no doubt get negative comments also, and maybe even pushed in the mud puddle.

I don't mean to sound negative and i am not defending the rudef comments, just looking at it from the other side.

Lulababy, I'm so sorry you had to go thru that. Noone should ever make fun of anyone. If anyone dares to make fun of my Pasquale...being the italian that i am...i'll fire back...and twice as hard. They'll wish they never opened their mouth. What ever happened to the "if you dont have anything nice to say...dont say anything at all?" After the class is over..id file a complaint with whomever schedules the classes. It's not fair to you or to your Pebbles. Let us know how she's progressing with the classes.

Ditto! You know your baby is well taken care of and loved. So ignore them. They are being ignorant, in the truest sense of the word.

Some people just don't think before they speak. Some don't care if they hurt your feelings. And some are just stupid. Ignore them and focus on the positive ones. I would be thrilled to meet Pebbles.

I happen to thin Pebbles is adorable!! i get comments on my babies all the time. I have heard people say they look like rats! Other people cant stand that i put clothes on them. I have just learned to brush it all off. The only opinion that matters is your own.
Just ignore them, they don't know what they r talking about!!

In this life we all will be confronted with negative remarks, I get you are to fat like I don't know that. Well If I were to listen to all those who said that I would be loopy. I know for sure that I am confident and understand that there are bullies in life who have nothing better to do but to try to destroy what God has made. You have a lovely Yorkie and sometimes people don't know how to say nice things because they really are just a tad bit jealous so they act out in hurtful ways. I have found kindness kills uglyness. There is nothing wrong with dressing your Baby up like she is fabulous because she is. Honey I would walk in there head up like the Diva I am and she is and when they said something to me I would say something lovey and make them really think about saying something to me again. This is my skill If I were deaf and did not here these things would they affect me no. So I hear what I need to hear life is to short to give away any thing even a negative word that is not deserved.

I am so very sorry about the negative comments. Unfortunately many people have never been taught how to behave in public. Either I would ignore the negative comments or I would come up with a "stock comeback" and practice using it so that when I needed to spit it out I could without hesitation.

Something like -- I will excuse your inappropriate comments because I have to assume you were never taught good manners.

Ive gotten a lot of those same comments from complete strangers.

When fishing: Is the dog the bait? Ha Ha MY dog is 90 lbs!

When out walking or at a store:
Are you walking a rat?
Shes too big to be a yorkie, must be a mix. (She was 2 lbs at the time)
Thats not a yorkie, yorkies arent black. (Hello! Its a puppy!)
What a spoiled little brat! (Said in a mean way cuz she was wearing a pink sequined harness)

And of course: My dog would eat your dog.

I know we should just brush it off, but I just dont know what kind of permission people have to make these comments. I mean, I dont walk up to our neighbor and his boxer and say "Are you walking an underfed cow?" or how about "My car could run over your dog."

Sometimes when people say stupid things you can just agree with them, for example the person who said she looked like a mop, you can just agree and say, "Oh yes, I know she's my little mop head," or something to that effect. I have found that this works really well at stopping negative comments, and it helps in winning people over. I disagree with those who say, you shouldn't dress your dog for an obedience class, but whenever you do dress your dog, you're going to get lots of attention both negative and positive. I don't know why people have such a problem with those that dress their dogs; it never ceases to amaze me though. Try to give people the benefit of the doubt, many just don't know what to say, and blurt out something stupid. I wish I could see a picture of her in her little dress, I bet she was a knockout.

I dont let people like that get to me at all. I just think some people dont think of their dogs in the same way people on here do. Theres are just dogs, ours are babies

Unfortunatly Opinions are like ( enter body part here, i use a certain bad word) everyone has one. Most of the time they arent worth anything. If someone makes a rude comment to me about my babies, i let them know that i didnt ask for their opinion and if i wanted one they wouldnt be the person i turn to! Im very protective of my lil ones

I'm sorry!! You had to go through this!! Its ignorant people everywhere and as adorable as she is, they are just jealous!!
My pride wouldn't let me go back to that class too but its up to you. It sounds like you had a hard time finding a good trainer!! If I had no choice but to go back I would just ignore their comments!! If they continue maybe ask a question about their dogs so the attention can be deviated from you to them.

I saw the cutest little shirt online awhile back that said "Can't Touch This"...it was sooo cute. It was only in pink or I would have bought one for sure.

I can picture "Pebbles" wearing something cute like this and then when anyone says "Anything" negative ...just smile!

Make sure those other "big dog owners" keep a tight hold on them!!
