| Revenge Pooping????? I had to run to the grocery store this morning so I put Paco in his crate. I was gone about 20 minutes and he pooped in his crate and then lays on it to hide it. That means he has to have another bath and he just had one last night for the same thing. He just pooped this morning so I don't get it. If I am home all day, he poops twice, once in the morning and once in the evening. Is this revenge pooping? Two days ago, I bought a litterbox and some puppy pads to put in his crate while I am at work. How do I teach him it's ok to go in the litterbox after I have already trained him to go outside? I have to work and it's too far away to come home at lunch. I don't have a trustworthy neighbor to let him out and I can't afford doggy daycare or a pet sitter. I am so frustrated I can hardly stand myself. Paco is my first Yorkie but I have never had this much trouble trying to housetrain a dog. I love him to death and I think he's a great dog. Maybe I am just PMSing today but still...HELP!!!!!

| First of all dogs do not make themselves poop out of revenge. that would be like acusing a baby of pooping out of revenge right after you had just changed it's diaper. The dog had to poop, he did not know that you were going to go to the store, or he might have made himself poop before you left. Second he did not lie on it to hide it, dogs don't think like that. They live in the moment and what they did or you did two seconds ago no longer matters to them. He simply is not getting the message of what you want. Not your faault, not his fault, it's a language barrier. if what you have tried in the past isn't working, get creative and think of a new way to get him to understand you. Working closely with your dog and teaching him other things might help him to understand you better. You also might want to try blotting up his pee with a pee pad so it has that smell on it. Good luck. Yorkies can be difficult to train it just takes patience and creativity on your part. Putting him in a little larger crate, and dividing the crate into separate areas might help. Potty in one area and sleep and play ing the other. |

| You also might consider keeping him in an ex pen with his crate inside the pen, and the pee pad outside of the crate. I think it might be confusing him that you're asking him to "go" where he sleeps, which is counter to a dog's instinct. This is similar to that Jeanie said about potty in one area and sleep/play in another. |

| Thank you for the suggestions. I have taught him lots of things so I know I am not just ignorant. He knows 11 distinct tricks/commands as well as the names of every toy he has. I even taught him to growl on command. He also knows each family members name. That's why I can't figure this out. The pad and newspaper have his urine on it. The crate is huge and divided into two sections with the litterbox at the back and towels for sleeping in the front. I reviewed my original post and it's official. I'm PMSing. I need a nap.

| If that is actually the case she is does not view you as the pack leader and is being disrespectful because she views you as subservient. |

I had a Cocker Spaniel that use to do this too. When she didn't get her way she would do the very same thing!! It use to drive me crazy! Dogs are very smart!!! I don't know that it is a revenge type of behavior but it could be one that they do to show dominance. I just know that my Cocker was famous for it.. so much so that it really turned me against wanting to own the breed again!

Dogs do not exhibit human emotions. Humans put their emotions to what dogs do. However it is instinctive for a dog to urinate or defecate on their subordinates. your dog might obey you out of fear and not out of respect. But it does not do things for revenge. That would take calculasted planning and they are not capable of that type of thinking. | |
