Thank you for the suggestions. I have taught him lots of things so I know I am not just ignorant. He knows 11 distinct tricks/commands as well as the names of every toy he has. I even taught him to growl on command. He also knows each family members name. That's why I can't figure this out.
The pad and newspaper have his urine on it. The crate is huge and divided into two sections with the litterbox at the back and towels for sleeping in the front.
