If I were you.. I would keep doing more research.. If your Biewer is registered in Germany with the IBC ... he is NOT registered as a Biewer Terrier.. but as a Biewer YORKSHIRE Terrier.. I would also suggest doing more research on the test you believe has "proven" that the Biewer Terrier is a distinct breed.. this is now more than ever come into question????? The Biewer is a German line of tri colored yorkies.. the Parti is the American counter part. The Parti does not carry the German lineage and is AKC registerable. If you breed a Biewer into the Parti lines, they are no longer AKC registerable as the Biewer is not able to be registered AKC at the present time. Some people believe the Biewer is a breed of it's own separate from the yorkshire terrier.. others, believe it is a yorkshire terrier, just a color variation like the parti is a color variation. I don't know a lot about this subject but I did read that there was no out crossing done to create the Biewer, so they can't be a distinct breed of their own. You cannot get a distinctly different breed when all you have used are Yorkies for the line. They are all cute to me but it is a complicated thing to understand when it comes to registries. |
Diana's correct. Also wanted to add the word "yorkshire" was dropped from the name by US clubs on the advice of akc. |
I posted this some where else yorkie forum. I was told by a reputable Biewer breeder, that when mr. Biewer bred for the breed he used Sht Zsu in his breed. And she has 1st generation Biewer's that origanally came from Biewer's in Germany. I won't mention any name's. but I was gonna bye from her till she told me that. Why would they risk their reputation if it was not true. We had a nice couple hour's chat. She was also German decent cause I could tell from her voice. I had a aunt from Germany that is how i know this lady speak's German from her accent. I would say buyer be ware none of us know for sure what we have or may be purchasing. I have what may be a Standard Yorkie that is what i paid for any way's. Does any one for sure what is in their line's? Anne.:p |
This seems to be an on-going debate....so the Biewer's that are registers with the IBC are yorkies?? I'm so confused over this issue...I could care less, they are ALL gorgeous! my next pup will be a Biewer so I am really interested in this. The breeder I found here in Canada registers her pups with the IBC...is this a good thing or no?:confused: |
Will a DNA test show if there is an outcross in a breed if it is not too far back? I know they can be somewhat accurate about the last 3 generations but I'm not sure about in something like a Biewer. |

I have never used one and don't know that much about the genetic testing for dogs. I do know that they now have DNA testing that can tell humans what their genetic background is as far as what different race might be in their family line. DNA has opened up a whole new field of discovery and if done under proper conditions can be very accurate. I'm sure some companies are just exploiting people though. That happens in every industry these days. You have to check out everybody anymore. |
Whatever my little Zachary is, Biewer Yorkie different breed or Biewer Yorkie same as Yorkie, he is a laid back sweet little doll baby that I love dearly!! In other words, what he IS or ISN'T doesn't make a bit of difference to me!!! Louise :D:D:D |

I have also heard that the Biewers are known for having a more laid back personality and not as high strung as Yorkies can be. However, I have a pair of Biewers.......Hannah seems to have that wonderful more peaceful personality. Reggie on the other had is a crazy nut case............very fun mind you......but a wild & crazy boy. I personally think it depends more on the dog, not the breed. |
