Maybe talk to him and tell him that you get the sense that he doesn't like your pets, and that since you are sort of neighbors, you really want to work through that, not that he has to love your pets, but that you want him to understand how much YOU love and care for your pets, try and get him to respect YOUR feelings towards your animals and how YOU want to be friendly neighbors, etc....IDK - may be worth a try

I have known this guy a long time and being nice won't cut it with him. However, I really do like your idea of going up to him and saying: "I get the feeling that you don't like my dogs very much. I've heard you call them rats, which I believe is condescending, and my daughter also told me about your reaction to Matty barking the other day, which I believe is immature". Then I will go on to tell him that my dogs are precious to me and that I love them and I would appreciate it if he would just come to me if he has a serious problem with anything they do.

What do you think? I definately have the 'guts' to confront him that way!

Coral is great. I actually thought of her when you mentioned Matty because Coral expects every single person on the street to pay attention to her.

Does he live alone? I think he's just a lonely crotchety grumpy old fart. I would take him a plate of cookies and/or brownies or something every now and then. Kill him with kindness.

However, I would also keep an eye and the babes and not let them out alone. As long as there is always someone out with them I'd think they'd be safe from crabby pants.

I have seen to many people like him in my lifetime and doubt being nice in any form will work. If he is hurting animals and being that mean he enjoys it and only fighting fire with fire will work. I wouldn't suggest you give him more to work with. Only a strong mean attitude will work I bet.

I have your phone or a video camera ready just in case you see somenthing, I'm sorry you are going through this, a dear friend of mine have a neighbor that hate everything and everybody, he even don't use the one dollar bill because it says in "God with trust" anyway her cat was gone for few days and show up at her back yard with wires wrap around her, she was torture so bad that one leg was almost gone she had to put her to sleep. If I were you will have video cameras if you can afford real ones a least a fake one to scare him away with a note that said smile you are in camera

I would be scared and hopefully he never does anything. But i agree, install camera asap, i don't think they can be that expensive. Look around online, you might get a deal. You jsut want to make sure he doesn't do anything in your yard and if he tries you can catch him and report him to the police.

I would not confront someone like him only because it would give him a reason to do something to you dogs. If it was me I would have to ingore him and gets cameras installed asap.

YES, PLEASE keep a VERY close eye on them!!! i wouldn't put anything past him.. that is too bad..

i was gonna say.. install some cameras!! im not sure how much they are.. i know you can get some basic surveillance cameras and install them yourself-for pretty inexpensive!! the more high tech/aesthetically pleasing you go.. the higher in price they will be! i would DEFINITELY check this out! give you a little more piece of mind! and some proof if you ever need it(lets hope not!!)

Cameras maybe a good idea as a possible deterrent. Though I can't help think it is more for evidence after the fact then actually helping to eliminate the problem. Being aware of everything while the babies are outside is the best thing to do.

I would also do the camera thing. While this guy could be a harmless grumpy old man, it's definitly not worth the risk of your babies. I would keep an extra eye on them when they are outside.

I'm sorry to hear about your cat, but I'm glad he's doing better now!
