| I'm Worried About Kalina & Matty Lu A while back I posted a thread about our neighbor, Fred which more or less said that maybe he isn't the animal hater that I always thought he was. I was so hopeful but now I have found out that he is NOT a nice man!! A story about him will NEVER be printed in Chicken Soup for the Yorkie Lovers Soul. Two week-ends ago I was babysitting my Granddog, Sassy. Fred didn't see me in the yard (there is one house between me and Fred and it is occupied by Mary, Joe, and their Boxer. They are brand new to the neighborhood) and I heard him hollar over to Mary "Looks like they got another RAT over there". A few minutes later Fred went into Mary's yard to talk to her and pretend that he loves their Boxer (believe me, he doesn't) and my little Matty Lu ran to the fence and just went crazy trying to get Fred's attention. He totally ignored her, of course. So, I called out to her "Get over here you little rat - only a man who is comfortable with his own sexuality will pay any attention to you". OK, maybe that was rude, but I wanted him to know that I heard what he said and I didn't like it. Fast forward to yesterday. My daughter is taking the two girls for a walk and Matty is running on her leash like the crazy little "puppy" she is. She's not even a year old and doesn't even weigh 4 pounds. So she sees Fred (who is 65 y/o for cryin' out loud) and starts barking and wiggling to get to him for a pat. She does bark on her walks, but it is a friendly "I love my life" kind of bark. We're working on it, but she's still a baby. Anyway, Fred says "Oh for god's sake" and puts his fingers in his ears as if her barking at 11 AM in the morning is the worst noise pollution he has ever heard. AND HE REPEATS IT AGAIN AND KEEPS HIS FINGERS IN HIS EARS UNTIL MATTY AND MY DAUGHTER TURN THE CORNER. I'm afraid that he is going to do something to one of my dogs! I seriously think that he hates animals and is responsible for all the poisoned and shot cats on OUR BLOCK!! I can't prove it, of course, but I do know that he owns guns and I've heard him say that cats should be killed. Someone DID shoot my cat a few years ago and broke his pelvis. He managed to drag himself home so it couldn't have happened too far from our house. He couldn't walk at all, so maybe he was even shot ON OUR FRONT PORCH!! Thankfully we were able to nurse him back to health! I'm worried!!

| Oh my...it sounds like you should be worried. I don't want to frighten you, but if he truly does not like your doggies, I would be afraid he would throw something in the yard that could possibly harm them...like rat poison or something. I would definitely keep a VERY close eye on them.

| I would be concerned also. If something like antifreeze was dumped on your lawn, you probably wouldn't even notice. How about motion detectors, alarms, cameras? It is your property.

| I would be cautious around him since he doesnt like small dogs and there have been poisonings in your area. I wouldnt let your dogs be unsupervised when hes out at all. Thats all you can do

| I wouldn't let them out in the yard unless you are there with them. That is what you are going to have to do in order to not worry about them. You might also acquaint yourself with a police officer or animal control officer who is occasionally in your neighborhood and speak with them about your concerns.

| I agree with everyone too. I would install a security camera in your front and back porches just for your safety and possible evidence in case anything does happen. I believe Costco has those security cameras. He sounds like a horrible person!! |

| Thanks everyone. I would love to install the cameras but I wonder how expensive that would be! Meanwhile I am going to keep a very, very close eye on my precious babies.

| Personally I think the man has a screw loose. 62 and putting his finger's in his ears because a dog is barking! How immature. I would'nt let my dogs out in the yard unsupervised. Your right, he's not someone who can be trusted. Even at night go in the yard with them. I would never be comfortable leaving them for a second. I hope he moves soon. He's not playing with a full deck. |

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | I would actually walk up knock on his door and say: "Just a friendly suggestion if you want to avoid losing what little life you have left keep you mouth shut and believe me if my dog so much as sneezes I'll figure it is your fault buddy so don't mess with me!" Think he would get the hint?

| I would be worried too. What if you took a different approach and tried to be nice to him and get him to talk about the things he doesn't like, etc... Maybe talk to him and tell him that you get the sense that he doesn't like your pets, and that since you are sort of neighbors, you really want to work through that, not that he has to love your pets, but that you want him to understand how much YOU love and care for your pets, try and get him to respect YOUR feelings towards your animals and how YOU want to be friendly neighbors, etc....IDK - may be worth a try |

| oh Susan please, please, please watch your babies like a hawk and perhaps have them walk in a different area altogether to avoid this very mean man . . I bet he would have shot my darling Annika if she lives in your neighborhood as she can be pretty LOUD with her barking when she is with Tiger (as I think she feels that she can be protected by him ) . . . |

| I have no advice but I hope everything works out for you. What a tough thing to deal with. That's horrible. Kalina and Matty Lu can always come across the river and live with me!
