Loved by Alfie & Evie Donating Member | Yorkie ears? Okay.. This may be a weird question, but I never had a Yorkie before and since I am new to the Yorkie world of things I just can't answer this for myself... I have searched the Internet and that's the worst to do because a little knowledge of something is never good. (or something like that..) My Alfie has floppy ears, I have gathered that is okay for now but there is something that I should do like tape them?? Should I, should'nt I? Thats my question really... My best bet was to ask those who have had to deal with this before... so if you have had floppy Yorkie ears on your babies.. give me some advise... Please!!! Thanks a ton~!!

If you want them to stand you can shave the top 1/3 of the ear, and you would also tape them.

Loved by Alfie & Evie Donating Member | So they will pop up on their own eventually... but if I am a weirdo that needs it NOW instead of later (which I really don't) I could tape them.. is that right? Sorry... I sound like a nut... for some reason I have a million questions.

| Yes you can shave them and tape them. They will usually copme up on their own sometime before 16 weeks, and then there might be some drooping when they are teething, but if you keep them shaved they wshould come back up when they are done teething. if you're impatient, then i would shave them first and wait a day or two and if they don't come up, then tape them. do not leave the tape on for over 3 days. There are different ways to tape, you might want to do a search on taping ears. |

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | Sometimes they do not come up at all. I didn't tape my Kayla's and at 16 months they are still floppy.

| Both of my girls were late bloomers in the ear department. At 4 1/2 months, Gracie had one up, one down. I taped the one ear up and in 24 hours, it was standing and has been that way ever since. When I got Holly at 12 weeks, both ears were up. One went down with teething. I taped it for a week or so and it stayed up for the longest time. Then the other one drooped. I shaved her ears and taped the other one up. It stayed up for a couple of days then drooped again. I pretty much gave up and figured she would have one up, and one down. Then last week, the other ear drooped. I shaved both ears and taped them a couple of days ago. I'm going to give it a week. Whatever happens, happens. She is cute either way.

Missing Yoshi Everyday! Donating Member | sometimes if they are to big or heavy they won't stand...being that he/she is too young you may want to start shaving them and taping them...i too and struggle with Kioko's ears right now..he just turned 6 months...they may never stand!

| Krissie had one up and one down at 13 weeks at about 14-1/2 weeks both ears popped up beautifully. Time is the trick. However, I think they are cute too, if they never come up. Peace and Love

Loved by Alfie & Evie Donating Member | Thank you everyone... I thought I was crazy asking such a question that no one would know what I was talking about but looking at almost every AV you see a ton of ears in the air... LOL So I needed to ask... but I think all of you have said it clear as day.. they may stand, they may not... but either way they are cute... And I think some of the pups I have seen on here have one up and one down in some pictures and that is just adorable..LOL I will be staying away from the tape I think and just going with trimming his ears when the time calls for it... he is still so young that it will be weeks before I need to do anything. Thanks again!!!

YT 1000 Club Member | I've had Roxie since she was 9-10 weeks old and her ears have always stood up on their own. I think it's cute either way. My sons 1/2 husky 1/2 lab has one ear that stands up (that's his mom coming thru) and one that flops (that's the dad)!! It's really cute even though someone else might think it looks goofy. |
