| To write or not to write...advice please!!!!! My Mom called me to tell me about "teacup yorkie puppies for sale" she read about in her local hometown paper. She knows how upset it makes me to see things like that. My Little girl, Lola, is on the small side and not a day does not go by when I walk her and someone tells me she is such a teacup. I have literally had people INSIST that I didn't know that she was a teacup...how frustrating!!!! So, my dilemma....my Mom gave me the email address of the person who is selling the "teacups" and I would like to send them an informative email about the responsibily they have in selling the pups they have advertised and the implications of calling the puppies teacups..so what would you do??? This was the first place I turned before I let my temper get the best of me and email something "not so nice". I hope my YT friends can help me out

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Lot's of people get really upset about the word teacup, but actually there is no reason for you to get upset. It's just a nickname people have given "toy" dogs. It doesn't even mean the dog will be especially small because many dogs that are sold as teacups are over the Yorkie standard of 7 pounds and below. Not only that, but when a breeder uses the word "teacups" it’s a huge give-away that they are a poor breeder, and haven't studied one thing about the breed before breeding. So why clue this poor breed in on the secret? She could change this, and some people might think she's a good breeder. This forum is to educate the Yorkie buyer on how to choose a good breeder, so the "teacup" term comes up in that connection, but unless it's a breeder using the term, I wouldn't worry about it.

| Often times when the seller is using the term teacup, it is so they can charge more for the puppies. It is up to you if you want to write the letter and try to educate, however, I am thinking that it may not do any good. They probably know that this term is invalid, but will use thais tatic anyway.

| teacup It is impossble to address the term here in south Florida..90% of ads in the Palm Beach Post lists the pups as "teacups"...and if they are not they said.."Not Teacups"..all the boutiques use the term for dog clothes and items... One store is named "Teacups"..it is endless..I have come to the point where I ignore it, save my breath...no one listens and most want to argue with me. |

| I agree with you all and have since calmed down a bit...sorry I was in a bad mood earlier. It is just so frustrating to hear about the ad and I don't like when innocent people get taken advantage of...especially since I know that people think that if they attach the word "teacup" to something that it means more $$$$$$! Thanks for your advice
