| Newbie at-home groomer :P Hiya! I just tried to groom my furbaby myself for the first time (other than combing). I used my nice hair clippers with the smallest clip and his hair is still way too long on his body. Guess I'll have to just buzz it. He was nutzo, but more into it he started calming down. He isn't afraid of the sound, thankfully. I've never groomed a dog before and well this is the first time I've owned a dog. What do you guys do to do a modified snouzer cut? I left the face alone as it's not really long enough to cut yet... The hair under his chin forms around his throat so I didn't want to try to cut that yet. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. HUGS! Brittany and Bentley

Senior Yorkie Talker | I think that he looks fine, you get better with each time that you groom them at home.

| Wow.. Thank you! He sure put up a fight so it was hard to get the buzz-lines evened out. Let me tell you, from the head-on he looks absolutely funny! I think it's because he doesn't yet have a full-face of hair. His ears look enormous! :P Let me see if I can find a pic of him face-on and i'll post it.

| You said a schnauzer cut? From the ouctuea I think you just need to shave his head, leaving the eyebrows and beard. Very good job for your first time. I trim my BF's cocker spaniel for him, he usually ends up looking like a blonde schnauzer because when I was younger, the first dog I learned to groom was the family miniature schnauzer. That poor dog had every imaginable style, from a mohawk to a pony tail…Hehe.

| You need the proper size attachment in order to give such a short cut without making nick marks or really bad "skid" marks. I use The Andis 2 speed clipper and when I was cutting Azrael's body down real short, I used the #4 blade. |

| Hello! When I do a modified schnauzer, I usually use a #5 or #7 (A5 clipper blade) on the body, the hand scissor the furnishings. He looks pretty good for your first attempt! I have learned that when a customer asks for a "modified schnauzer cut" what they really usually want is a pet westie cut. It is pretty much a schnauzer body with a round full face.(like a puppy cut face) You might try pet westie grooming in a search engine. It might turn up some detailed pics that may help! Hope this helps!!

| I just scissor cut my baby for the first time. He did surprisingly well, as did I. HAHA. I trimmed the side belly hair and his legs a little bit to even them out. Once he gets more used to being trimmed he'll probably stand straighter. He has a tendency to stand with an arched back when he's on an uncomfortable surface (table, etc.)... But I did rather well I think. I didn't take too much off which is what I was afraid I'd do. I did learn one thing - after - i trimmed his head hair. HAHA. I had cut from ear to ear (direction) versus tail to nose... Well that left a 'shelf' OOPS... I tried to even it out and I did pretty good. Next time I trim his head hair I'll go from tail to nose as to not have a shelf-like look :P makes more sense (after the fact). He stood pretty good for me on the table, but he was shaking the entire time. Poor skerd baby. I even had the guts to trim his peepee hair! yay! Although getting him on his back was a challenge but I'm working on the cesar milan techniques with him and they do seem to be working - when I do it right. I had bought a mustache trimmer thingy like to do eyebrows and neck hair, ya know that 10 dollar little thing they used to sell on tv. Anyway, that did absolutely nothing forh is hair. He has very fine cottony hair but its too thick or idk, it didn't work to do his paw pads. That's why I bought it. I'll have to invest in some good smaller scissors or a doggie clipper. I already did the first time I groomed him -but should I grim his ear hair down or leave it a bit scraggly? I noticed that after I trimmed his hair on the outers of his ears it made him look like he had giant ears... Ah the questions of a newb groomer. Guess I should do the belly first then the sides and legs. IDK, just making observations and learning. Any tips would be appreciated. :-)
