| Worry we can be cut in a scam! Hi everyone! My names is Yady from Texas. My husband and I have been talking with a lady that is from a town like 1 1/2 hour from us; we were going to meet her today to see the baby girl and give her $150 deposit (to put the puppy out of the market) and ckeck for the remaining balance in order to deposit it to her bank account this coming Thursday. We called her back in order to get directions on how to get there, she want us to met her in a Jack in the Box. We were going to see the puppy; she was going to keep her. The person we have been in contact with does not want to give us her home address, or last name for security reason. The only information we have is her first name and cell phone number. I told her I really want to see the dogs environmet, she said she's being doing this for 11 years and she's worry that when her and her husband got to work someone may break in to her house and still the puppies. We agreed on call her back Wednesday to make arrangement and pick the baby on Thursday. Now my husband and I are debating if we should do this or not! Has anyone experince this before? |

| puppy mill Welcome to YT! Nice to see another Texan here!! That sounds to me like a puppy mill situation where they do not want you to really see the conditions. They will meet you at a place and bring the puppy or pick up your check. A reputable breeder will show you where they are raised and the conditions that the puppies are living in. IMO, i wouldn't buy from someone that i just meet at a JITB and handed over $$. It doesn't scream scam to me as much as it screams puppy mill but i could be wrong. We have so many great breeders on this site, you should check out the section for yorkies for sale or wanted or in our Featured Breeder section. There are some that are here in Texas too. Good luck and welcome to YT!! Linda & PACK |

| It doesn't neccesarily mean she is a puppy mill, I'm a rabbit breeder myself and I have heard horror stories of people coming home and all their show rabbits have been stolen. Also, there was something that happened a few months back where a family got robbed at gun point for their yorkie puppies when some guys came to their house acting like they were going to buy them. So I can definatley understand why she would not want anyone coming to her house, I don't have people come to my house anymore. Maybe she could send/give you pictures of the puppy in its environment..

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | A good breeder would always give you her name. I wonder if you already lost the money you've given up.

| Welcome To YT! The breeder could have had a bad experience with people trying to take advantage of her and puppies. She migght be on the overly cautious side of things. However, you have every right to ask as many questions as possible, and get honest answers . I would not put money up front then, until you have the puppy and is ready to go to you. You will also need to use caution and protect yourself from any scams, or puppy mills. Just use your judgement, and if it does not feel right then do not do it. Find anther breeder that is willing to work better with you.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Think of how you would report this to the police, wouldn't you feel foolish giving money to someone when you don't even know their name? Should she sell her puppies to people that she doesn't trust? People use references when they need to protect themselves. Names are an important part of doing business. You have no way of knowing if the animal she sells you is really hers to sell. While I can understand people not wanting someone to come to their house, I would offer her the name of my vet or someone in the community that she could contact, and she should offer you some type of reference. What recourse do you have if the puppy is sick? I think you are setting yourselves up for lots of heartache. Without any type of papers how are you going to prove that the puppy is yours?

| IF she in fact is not running a puppy mill and you are willing to take that chance then I would just ask her to bring the parents with her I guess. If you want to see what they look like. It sounds kind of fishy to me... I can understand someone trying to be cautious and not giving out their home address BUT its the nature of your business... The reason people take the time to buy an animal from a breeder is so they could get to know the parents, the humans involved, living conditions and other dogs. If I wanted to just pick up a dog that I didnt know where is came from or anything aboout its background I would get one from a pet store... it would probably be cheaper. I dont think I would go through with it. There are plenty of breeders on YT and in Texas. I wouldnt risk it. |

| Sounds kinda fishy to me I would be cautious before handing over any money... A good breeder would invite you over when the hubby is there to take a look at the enviroment and the parents & litter ect.. thats just my opinion

| Yady welcome to YT!! I hope you haven't given these folks money - this is not right and there are reputable breeders out there to deal with. I would also be concerned about the health and well-being of this pup. As a buyer, you deserve to see the parents at least the mom and the litter mates. You need to know enough about the breeder to make an informed decision about whether this is someone you want to business with

| I would say back out. I can kind of understand not wanting people coming to their house only because people have been getting robbed.… but a person that doesn't want to give their name for "security" reasons is hiding something or is preparing to. I personally wouldn't buy from someone that wouldn't let me see the pups environment and at least the pups momma.

YT 1000 Club Member | If your writing her a check then you need to have her last name I'd think. If you already gave her a check for the deposit, maybe you can see if she's cashed the check and view it when it comes back to the bank for her last name on it. If she cashes it at a bank she has an account at, the bank can find out who she is by her routing number? Not sure but does sound a little funny. |

| Welcome to YT! The lady I got Onni from in May still has two males left. She is in San Antonio. She is a wonderful lady and allowed me to visit her home every week to visit Onni until she was ready to go home. All her dogs are her babies! Onni is a great little dog. I would be glad to give you her contact info if you are interested.

| Don't Buy From BYB's or PuppyMills!!!!!! Does she want you to meet her in Azle or Springtown? If so RUN!!!!!! There are so many wonderful breeders that try to breed to the AKC standard. If we keep buying from BYB's and Puppymills we will never end the suffering so many sweet animals endure for their whole lives. Please go to Puppymills - Information about puppy mills and how to shut them down.. Remember that sweet little puppy could be a ticking time bomb with many health issues. What will you do if your puppy has liver shunt? What if your new puppy has a grade 5 heart murmer? What if your puppy has level 3 luxating patellas? These cost thousands of dollars to fix and not to mention some are inoperable! If you do your homework and buy from someone who truly loves thier babies you will be so rewarded with years of happiness and love! You and your new baby deserve it! Good luck and don't be afraid to ask people on this site for help, there are so very sweet people who would love to help you!
