| Dropped GiGi off at groomer.. Not so comfortable!! So I took GiGi to our regular groomers this morning. The owner who I usually deal with either wasnt there or was in the back. GiGi's back was matted but not as bad as when she was in heat and mosheh was flea biting her and she had a little mat on her topknot. The girl told me that they would have to shave her down!!! They have gotten matts out worse then that. I told her I DID not want her shaved down and she said that I shouldnt have let it get that bad.???? I told her not to cut her topknot, if she couldnt get that mat out then I would. It just needed brushed!! I really shouldnt have left her because I wasnt comfortable but I have been waiting for two weeks to get her into any groomers and she is an absolute wreck!!!! She should be done in about 1/2 hour!!! So scared.. I will update when she comes home!!

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I think I would have gotten the mats out before she left for groomers. Cowboy magic is really great for getting out mats, you can use it liberally like a conditioner, get the mats out, and then take them to the shop for a shampoo and grooming. When you leave it up to them, most groomers will just shave it.

| I talked to the groomer the one time when she was in heat and badly matted and she told me not to worry that she would get the matts out. I thought she might have to be shaved down then but she got the matts out just fine. If I thought that this would have been a problem, I would have gotten the matts out. Even if the girl had told me that if they couldnt get them out then she would have to shave her then I would have been fine. I guess I just have to remember that she will be gorgeous either way and her hair will grow back...

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | I also would have brushed her out before sending her there. Be prepared to have a shaved dog.Groomers don't have the time to sit there & get out each mat. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Mats can take lot of time to get out; they are probably paid the same price no matter how much time they spend, so some groomers just shave. You kind of have to put yourself in the groomer place, what would you do? I think if she is matting you might want to alter your grooming habits. After brushing use a comb and go close to the skin, all tangles most be removed before they turn into mats. Some people say that dogs with cotton coats require 2 grooming sessions a day, morning, and night, and especially when removing clothes. A leave on hair conditioner might also be helpful. Mats can cause them lots of pain, and it's best to prevent them. If you find that you haven't the time for this, maybe a shaved body would be more suitable, and you could leave the facial hair and topknot.

I think that a short cut with a "lion face", is really cute! I have both my girls cut that way, and there is no matting at all. My boy is really silky, so I can leave his hair a bit longer. None of them have a topknot, though. They pull them out of each other's hair, then I have to worry about if they swallowed the hairband!! | |

| She usually doesnt have matts but my father had a heart attack so I left for about a week and my boyfriend left her fabric harness on. She has only had matts one other time because of my other dog flea biting her. I know how to take care of my dogs coat but that you for the suggestions. I pick her up at the groomers and she looks the same as usual. It is a tad shorter on the top. The groomer said that the matts werent bad and she apologized for the way the other girl talk to me. I was really upset about how the assistant approached me. I would have been fine if she would have talk to me without the attitude. GiGi looks great though and I am happy.

Good, I'm glad she turned out well, didn't mean to imply you didn't know how to take care of her coat, and thought perhaps you were having a frequent problem with matting. Want to share some pictures of her new "do"?

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Oh I'm sure you were a bit nervous, lol, but you're right she turned out beautiful, she looks so shinny. I'm too big of a chicken to take Joey, I'm afraid they'll cut of his topknot and shave his nose, so we just go in for the nail clippings, I wish I could learn to do that. Nice trim job.

| GiGi's cut is real cute! That's close to the length I have Lucy's cut.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | She looks beautiful. When Cali got really badly matted after her spay and I had a onsie on her I found a groomer who use to show Yorkies and she agreed to work on the mats and not shave her. I told her I would pay what ever she wanted. She ended up getiing her completely mat free and charged 60.00. I tipped her 20 I was so happy. Sometimes they just get matted

| I think they did well! Most groomers will just shave anything with a knot or snarl in it so they did great! They even left hair on her face!!!! Before I groomed my own dogs, I always got shaved faces no matter how much I said I didn't want that.

| I am very particular about her cut now. We have tried a couple different ones and this one works the best. I use to keep her long all over but it was so hard to maintain. So we do short on top and keep the length. She trims her face and ears. She knows I am growing out the top knot since my son decided to cut it off a few months back!!! I do often have to trim her nose up because it starts sticking in her eye.. IT makes me so nervous!!! I got special scissors but it is still nerve wracking..
