| Second Guessing Neutering Tomorrow Morning Hey, Tomorrow is the "big" day. I am supposed to get Gizmo neutered. But all evening I have been feeling all out of sorts about it. I hadn't been second guessing this decision prior to right now. I have no intention of breeding him but I don't want his demeanor that I have grown to love so deeply to change. And I am worried at the thought of him being hurt or changed in any way. Is this just big day jitters, or should I cancel the appointment even though I won't be breeding him? Also, he had to stools today that were diarrhea, he had some on Thursday and Friday last week but when I gave him home cooked rice and boiled chicken it went away up until this evening. Yesterday I switched him back to his food and continued with the boiled chicken, he had no diarrhea then, but now its back. He got tested for worms and such over the weekend, and all tests came back negative. Is he feeling my anxiety?? I don't usually let him sleep in my bed (since he isn't potty trained) but thinking of the horrible thing im going to do to him tomorrow I'm letting him tonight. |

If he still has diarrhea tonight, I'd ask the vet how they felt about postponing because a sick animal really shouldn't have an elective surgery in my opinion.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | His demeanor won't change. Did you have a full blood panel screening done this weekend? That would've indicated any problems. I would mention the diarrhea to the vet prior though. It's not easy to do... my Reggie's getting neutered on Thursday. What's being done doesn't concern me...but the surgery itself does.

| Ellie May: He is currently eating puppy 38 of royal canine, I called the vet and his neutering has been postponed, thank goodness. I am very apprehensive about the surgery in general, since Gizmo, doesn't mark should I continue with the surgery??? He is AKC registered but I believe its limited so his pups wouldn't be AKC registered. Its not that I want to breed him I just feel that the option for him to have pups is nice. If I get another puppy in the future they could have puppies together and I think that is nice. Bchgirl: Thanks so much for the tip on the full blood panel screening, I asked and they said that they do that on the day of the surgery before putting him under anesthesia. Also, they asked me to bring him in the morning for a full once over from head to toe to see what could be the matter. Why have you decided to get Reggie neutered? As for neutering, I really can't say what is best for him but I will say that there are pros and cons and it should all be consider before making a decision. A good place to start is Google. You will hear about the pros of neutering quite often, but rarely are the cons brought into it...

| he will lift his leg He isn't leg lifting now but if not neutered he WILL- He was sold with limited reg which means he should not be bred Are you knowledgeable about breeding ie: pedigrees , blood lines , what all goes into insuring healthy puppies and all the work involved. If you don't want a Full time job , you better rethink this. I can tell you are considering it for the "fun" of cute puppies - PM me if you want more info.

| u are exactly right hasrv4fun, i would only be considering it for the fun of cute puppies not as a full time job. i know i am not knowledgeable enough about breeding to sell them or anything, but baby gizmo's would be pretty freakin awesome to just give away lol. ellie may thanks so much for such fast responses i hope that i can return the favor in the future. i will start by looking at google, to see what is the best option for our particular family, as im sure every family is different. right now i am leaning towards getting him neutered bcus of the health risks but still would like to see those gizmo babies...maybe gizmo will just have to adopt? hehe...thanks everyone so much! | I use to think it would be fun to have a litter of puppies running around, but after reading all the whelping threads there is so much more that goes into it then cute puppies running around...it is a full time job...at least during the time the female is going into labor and for weeks after the puppies are born... I find those threads so interesting to read and to see how much time, love and effort goes into having puppies.... I have four males all neutered and I did not see a difference in personality...my first one was alittle dominant when he was younger and I was told that the neuter might calm him down..well it did not change his behavior at all...he would still like to be in charge..but training helped with that not his neuter... I also was nervous during each of their surgeries and still am when I have dentals done....

Reggie is being neutered because I contractually agreed to have him neutered. Even had this not been a stipulation...I would've neutered him. Did you sign a contract? Puppies with a limited registration are usually sold on a spay/neuter contract.

| do not get gizmo neutered! chloe had a horrible case of diarrhea the day before her spay and when i brought her in i let the doctors know the ran tests and it turned out she had a bacteria in her poop and she had to put on two medications dont let her baby get any major surgery done while he has the potential of being sick! |
