Shelby I think your missing the meaning of the thread, breeding the undersized yorkies and selling them for an oversized price.

breeders that breed out of the standard (oversized) are not asking $4000 for their puppies nor do most larger dogs have the health risks that are prone in the tinies. Many breeders price the larger (bath tub or tea pot LMAO yorkies)babies far less, but of course there are those breeder that will NOT share the true adult size.

bottom line the old adage "less is more" has new meaning here

I wish I was joking. The only time I ever see that price is in Newspaper ads from backyard breeders.

I think Tanya and her mentor know what the market will bear and they go for it. $4000. is pricey from someone that hasn't been breeding all that long and never shows her dogs. She could be a nice lady and if she treats her dogs well, that's all I care about. She can charge what she wants, as long as she is honest in her pricing.

I know Kim is a nice lady and I know she saw a lot of breeders. If I were looking for a dog I would want to hear about the breeders she saw. The good the bad and the ugly. We have it ALL down here! and the homework required to find a dog is exhausting. If she says Tanya cares about her dogs, I believe her.

My question came from a statement from other poster about ruining the standard. If we are going to talk standard (as an argument against tinies) then it is logical to bring up the oversized Yorkie too.

To some, my Yorkie may be considered "oversized" at 7lbs at last weigh in. He's 9.5 months old now. His parents were 6lbs (dam) and 4lbs (sire). I don't agree with purposefully breeding Yorkies who are above the standard weight, nor do I really agree w/ breeding cottons. I believe in bettering the breed through pedigree research and genetic testing to breed out faults and defects to dogs. If Joe Schmoe wants to breed his 12lb dam and 11lb sire AND sell them to the public, I am not going to freak out, but I wouldn't want one of their puppies. I think their dogs should have been spayed or neutered. The same goes for dogs under standard weight. I would not buy a dog without seeing its parents firsthand, but that's MY thing. I would not buy a dog who's parents were cotton coated because I would want a silk coat -- all being my preferences.

It IS honesty.

I thought you were opposed to shipping and we all know it is better to buy locally and see the puppy and its environment before you purchase. You take a big chance when you buy out of the area. I chose to look locally, find the puppy when it was small and visit and watch it grow so I knew how it was raised and it was raised under my chosen name, Ava, from the beginning.

I respect your opinion when you disagree with the price, but if it was not a fair price, they wouldn't get it. Tanya's mentor who has been breeding for over 20 years just sold her "extreme tiny" to a repeat customer who already had two of her dogs and he paid $8000. He is not stupid and he feels very happy that she "chose" him to adopt this little one. She has only had one other one this small, and this cute and she is keeping it until it is 6 months old.

To me, honesty in pricing is telling you what a product is and the cost of that product. (If I don't want to pay it, I don't get involved) Dishonesty is telling you that you are getting one thing, and giving you something else. It is also telling you a price and then changing that price after you have made the decision to buy.

Gouging is another subject and there *is* a lot of that going on.

I am grown up enough to think outside the box dear.

That thinking would still never allow me to consider having a dog shipped. If you are willing to do that you might want to do a little research on that subject.

Shelby if I may, many national and international dog shows wouldnt exist without shipping, many national and international horse races wouldnt exist without shipping, many zoos for that matter wouldnt exist without shipping.

Breeders/show people/exhibitors/zoo's/animal parks/circus's/traveling shows for many many many years have been shipping animals if it were truly that dangerous would it be the main choice of transport???

Kim, I know I have never said i am opposed to shipping, you have me confused with someone else. I shipped Rio,remember, he had a layover with a nice stewardess? And the only reasons I didn't ship Mignon was her breeder doesn't ship the little ones and she was too little. After it was all said and done and I made the 11 hr drive it would have been faster to ship her to be honest! What I MAY have said is that i would always find an airline and pay the extra for the VIP service. I have also shipped baby exotic birds and never had a problem.
In my area we do not have many YTCA show breeders and that is who I chose to buy a dog from. The only option for me is shipping or flying myself to pick them up.
And 8000????? Kim you are supposed to be an intelligent woman, do you truly think that is not gouging?.
Somebody saw the money train rolling in with the "tiny" fad and jumped on it. That is right up there with another "breeder" of questionable reputation.
I would have serious doubts about any breeder who charges more for a tiny yorkie. But to charge that much more? I can buy a freaking tiger for that!!!!

That is not true , the boy is larger and is a male and does not have the current desired look so he commands a smaller price. It will cost more to raise the tiny female because she will have to keep her longer and she required 24/7 care for longer right after she was born due to her size. Tanya is a very small breeder with very few litters a year and I think because she spends the quality time with those litters and her adult dogs (who all sleep with her btw) she is entitled to get the going price when she has a special tiny like this little girl. I wouldn't be surprised if she has people competing over that puppy and she has her choice of the most appropriate adoptive parents at even more than her asking price! That quality puppy is hard to come by and some people have to wait a long time before they get one.

This just shows that Tanya knows the "value" of the different looks and the puppies and she is being fair. She is not setting some "standard price" like I have seen breeders do before a litter is even born where the females are $1200 for instance males are $1000 or something else just as arbitrary.

As a breeder, you know very well that you get all different looks in the same litter, some with big ears, some with small eyes, some with roach backs or long snouts, whatever. Those puppies are just as loveable and someone will be thrilled with them but hey are not as valuable as the "complete package" or size, big eyes, smalll well set ears, level topline, compact body, silky coat, etc.

And as far as yesterday goes, you complained about Tanya's price on that thread and said it was gouging and ridiculous and then you started a new thread recommending a breeder (who is not a member and who I am not sure how well you know her) who charges a lot more than that, upwards of $7500 for her puppies. That didn't make sense to me. You cited the very same characterisitics that Tanya has (puppies bred carefully with known pedigrees to insure smallness w/o genetic defects, keeping the puppies longer, a great puppy care package, etc.)

I am not recommending this breeder but go to www.starlightsyorkies.com and you will see the same thing...puppies for $5000 and more as well as puppies for $650. There is a valid reason for this. Yorkies all look different.

As I stated, *I* would not even consider it. I cannot speak for everyone on the planet that needs to move animals around. Only for myself. For me it was not an option. First of all it would mean buying a dog I hadn't even seen in person. Second it would mean dealing with the dangers of shipping. It was not a consideration any more than buying from a petshop, a newspaper ad, blah blah blah.
