| his hair is a tangled mess!!!! How can I comb out my babies hair?? He always cries or barks or bites me. He hates it and it is still tangled. It comes out by the handful just knots of hair. Do they make dog conditioner. How can I get all his hair untangled? |

| You can buy detangler or a conditioner spray to use on your dog. I'm using a conditioner spray made by purepaw to help detangle my yorkies hair after a bath. Here is the link http://www.purepaws.net |

| How old is you pup and how long has it been since he has been brushed. I think the secret is treats treats and more treats.... They make lots of conditioner for dogs. You can go to the pet store and get some until you find what you like. Never brush the babys hair when it is dry. Always moisten the hair. I put conditioner in a spray bottle and spray her before I brush. Also you can spray the knots to help. If its too bad you may have to have it shaved so you can start new.

| Maybe you could take your baby to a groomer and have them do the dirty work--de-tangle, bathe and then clip the hair short. THEN, start combing the coat while it is short and continue every day as if he needed it. He will get used to having a pleasurely time with you combing and treating. It will take time.. |

| He's only 15 weeks. His hair not that long. I put some human conditioner on him and it made his hair softer and I got some of the tangles out. He didn't like it much though. I gave him treats as I did it. That made it easier I guess. Then I blow dried it. That may have put more tangles in it though. |

| Keeping trying to brush it. My yorkie had to get shaved becaues his hair got matted. It was horrible. It is just starting to grow back and it has been 2 months. Has anyone else had this experience? How long does it take to grow long like some of the pics I see on this site? Msisom aka D'ogee's Mom |

| Before Miko' haircut he was tangled alot. I use something called NOVA PEARLS It's a power mositurizing spray mist for dogs. They sell it at petco, it's smells great and it really helps with detangling.

| If it is matted do not wet it! Pull the mats apart with your fingers, or cut into them and pull them apart. You may have to cut some of them out. When all the mats are out, you can use a finishing spray that will make him easier to comb. At first, my husband had to hold Lexy while I combed her because she would try to bite the comb, etc. The have to know that this is an everyday thing. He'll get used to it. Good luck!

| The easiest way to detangle the dogs coat is to hold the hair between your finger and thumb down by the skin, start combing (not brushing) from the tip of the hair to the skin. By hold the hair you are working on close to the skin you will not be pulling on the dog's hair, which hurts them and makes them HATE grooming. Use a steel dog comb. After you have removed all the tangles you can then brush the dog. I've used this method for over 25 years, I don't use detangler or conditioner as they tend to make the coat too oily. Comb the dog's hair when it is dry not wet, then bath the dog, let the dog dry or blow dry the dog and then brush him/her out. You can then use a finishing spray if you like. Most new yorkie owners over bathe their dogs which dries out their coats and makes it matt even worse. You really shouldn't have to bath the dog more than once every three weeks unless he/she is outside rolling in the dirt. Do however wash their eyes with a warm cloth every night. Good luck. |

| I use Pantene Conditioner on Archie. Works great and keeps his coat shiny and straight and detangled for a while. |

| Hey Lickthestar, I have an Archie too What I do if I encounter matts, which I do, I have some thinning shears and then I cut into the matt, especially if it is really bad. The you can comb it out little by little and then you don't have such a bare spot. I bathe my boys every 2-3 weeks depending on how dirty they get outside. But I do brush every day...

| My little Millie too hates to have her hair brushed and combed. She will yelp, snarl, growl and try to bite me. The 1st week of this was just awful and I thought this was my fate for the rest of her life, of having to fight during brushing. I brush her everyday and use a detangler on her hair before I brush. Well we are into our second week of this and while she is not perfect, still wiggles (tries to get away), yelps, and shows her temper, SHE IS BETTER. I do see the light at the end of the tunnel. She allows me to get under her chin, under her armpits, and her hind legs. Still with a struggle, but I can do it, whereas before, I could not get near those areas. And we are getting done much faster too, but I have to treat (lots of it) and use a soothing voice, contineous "good girl", ect. It's alot of work and aggravating. But I know if I don't brush her everyday, her hair will mat, because I find tangles in it everyday. Eventually, I am hoping that it will become so routine that she will let me do it without a hassel and it will become enjoyable and not a laborous process. |
