| a few questions about my new pup Max So my boy is 2.5-3 months old.. He is my first small dog and first Yorkie.. Im used to German Sherpards. Anyways, I was wondering.. Being as small as he is and having no undercoat is that ok to take him peepers outside when it rains? I might wanna know that we live in Shanghai and its 28-38 degrees celcius these days.. We are entering rainy season and I really wanna housetrain him for outside peepers and poopers.. Also does he need a doggy coat when it gets colder? Or a rain coat for the rain? What do you guys do? Thanks |

| Hi ... .... well I would look into a Raincoat if it poors down like crazy ..... Maya hates to go out when it rains ... even if it just sprinkles a little she refuses to go ...... And I would recommend a little sweater when it gets colder ..... as you said .... they have no undercoat ..... Hope this helped ... and have fun shopping for the Furbutt ...

| i've seen dogs outside in the rain, but never small dogs like yorkies. i personally don't like to take mine out just in case it catches cold. he doesn't even like rain. my mom took mickey out for a walk then all of a sudden it started to down pour and mickey got scared and went into hiding mode. so i really wouldn't take a dog out if its rainning a lot. but if it's spitting, take your dog out long enough for ur dog to do his business |

| Well, my Yorkie personally LOVES the rain, lol. Even if it's raining really hard, he loves being outside in it. Then again, I live in a really hot climate, so maybe he likes it because it's so hot & it's a great way to cool off Amy

| When can I wash Max? He hasnt been washed since we picked him up a week ago.. He has had a little cold and the vet told me he is way too young to be wash now. He still smells like well... not too good.. I dont wanna spray the guy with my deo ;-) So does anyone have a good idea to make him a bit cleaner without washing him and when can I actually wash him? Thanks everyone! |

| Google "waterless shampoo." Also there are darling raincoats. There are also little raincoats that have an umbrella attached and then a leash attached to the umbrella for you to hold onto. My furbabies are scared to death, though, when I try to even use an umbrella for myself. I just invested in raincoats for myself and my furbabies. I use sweater on my doggies all the time except in hot weather. Even use tee-shirts inside. I always figure that the way I feel is the way they feel because they have no undercoat.

| Congratulations on your new baby! They all have their own personality, just like people. Mine have raincoats, but one (Tea) won't tolerate it. She runs right out into the rain and dances around on her hind legs and holds out her tongue (apparently to catch raindrops). The other (Tali) sits inside at the door to wait for her raincoat to be put on. Similar with snow. When it snows here, Tea will sit and bark and bark at the snow until I let her out. She zips around like she's on speed and rolls in the snow, and likes to eat it. She is a very happy, playful dog, but I never see her as happy as when she's playing in snow. Tali likes to play in snow too, but she seems to like wearing a sweater. My husband and I call Tea our "Yorkshire Terrorist." As far as bathing, I'm baffled about your vet telling you that your little boy is too young to bathe. My dogs have had baths every two weeks ever since I got them, and more often if they get dirty somehow. The only problem with bathing dogs or any other animal is doing it too often, because it will dry the natural oils out of their skin and they'll be miserable. Just make sure you use a high-quality shampoo intended for puppies, and a skin/coat conditioner. Don't EVER use a flea/tick shampoo as a matter of routine. Those should be used only when you're treating a problem, and should come only from a vet. I wouldn't recommend ever buying a chemical shampoo at a store. Best wishes, and congratulations! |
