Default Long Long Story.. Hope you dont mind.. My Journey to finding the right pup..

Here is my story.. I bought a puppy from a breeder here in Alberta and named her suki. She was ckc reg'd with a no breeding contract. She was the perfect little thing until she past away after only 2 weeks of having her. Vet said it was from cardiopulmonary arrest(heart attack). Anyways, our whole family was already attached to poor suki. I also bought a little harness from fellow yter Magsy. The breeder was going to give us a little boy in return and when i called her the next day, he was already taken by another person who lost their yorkie due to a furniture moving accident.

Afterwards she did say to wait till later June when she might have a little boy available to me but i she kept asking for Suki to get a autopsy, Which isnt possible due to her being cremated.

Anyways, i stopped hearing from this breeder so i went on a journey to find another puppy to bring joy back into the family.

I read a add on alberta Kijii for a "t-cup" puppy selling for $1800 ckc limited registration.. Called the breeder and was going to meet her Saturday. i talked to her a couple times on friday and asked for more details. Found out that when i purchase the puppy.. i won't get to keep the papers of her registration. Her story claims that many people tend to switch puppies and then breed her little puppies. So i asked her for just a paper copied when the registration comes.. so i kno that she is registered even tho i wont be breeding her. it just feels safer to me knowing i didnt buy from a puppy mill.

Anyways she said she cant even give me a paper copy but she can give me her parents.. also a couple red flags came up while asking more info.. she didnt want me to meet her at her home but on a street. and it seemed like she vaccinated the puppy alot.. she said something about every 2 weeks.

the story goes.. i ended up saying i wont be going to pick up the puppy and she just said "Alright i will be going on to the next buyer then and hung up on me"

I seriously am thinking about giving up already..

There really arent much qualified Breeders up here in Canada.. Alot of people trying to rip u off for money..

I saw a pup selling for $1000 non registered.. is it really bad to buy a puppy that is unregistered but needs a good pet home? Her b-day is one day before sukis.. suki was born on leap year day 2/29 and this pup is born 2/28..

I am just looking for a healthy pup now.. i just want her to live longer than Suki had..

I'm so sorry your pup passed....it is terrible that your having such a hard time finding a person you can trust......I just wanted to say that getting AKC papers in no way guarantees that your are dealing with a reputable breeder nor does it mean the pup will be healthy....Di you try the YTCA to find a breeder? They also have to be screened........but it is a help........

It sounds like the woman you have been talking to is not good, it sounds suspicious to me, I would not do it with her.....When in doubt, do without.......

Good luck on your search and take your time....

I am so sorry to hear that you lost your puppy. I know the heartache. To answer your question, just keep looking and you will find another furbaby when the time is right. I found mine one month after my loss. Many people feel it is best to have a registered dog, quite possibly to confirm its background and breeding. Since I have no interest in breeding, I did not feel it necessary. I was, however, careful in picking my puppy and was fortunate to see both parents. Best of luck in finding your furbaby.

I'm sorry about Suki. That's so awful.

I don't blame you for being extra causious now. I would be more interested in the health of a new puppy vs their price or registration. It may take a little while to find the perfect breeder with the perfect puppy.

Enchanted toi is a canadian member here. Perhaps she could advise you.

Don't be afraid to ask lots of questions. Any reputable breeder will happily answer each and every one of those questions. Were I looking for another puppy...I want to know what health testing their sire and dam has had. What testing the puppy has had....and then ask about any health guarantee.

Please.... take your time!!! My first yorkie was a full grown 2 lb rescue baby. We had her a short 3 mos when she hit her head while playing outside and never woke up. In that short time, I had fallen so hard for her that I rushed out and bought the first baby that caught my heart. I know now I should have done my homework on the breeder first. I love her dearly and would not trade her for any other animal but her good qualities were no thanks to the breeder. I found out later that she had no people interaction other than food brought to the pen. She had never been played with or taken outside to romp. I have been very lucky with her but wouldn't count on it happening again. Choose wisely!!

I have 2 yorkies, both registered with 2 different kennel clubs. CKC will register your pup without any paperwork from the breeder. You will have to send photos of your Yorkie as proof. But it is a fairly simple process to register with them. Go to there website and check it out.

Continental Kennel Club

Good Luck!

This information is from there website:

"Dogs over 6 months of age which have no previous Registration history may be registered by providing 2 witness signatures attesting to the purebred status of the dog along with 3 photos (front, left and right) of the dog to confirm it is ‘of proper breed type’ as defined by our current CKC Registration Rules and Regulations.Canine Registration Applications are available in PDF format from our web site."

i am so sorry for your loss...but hang in there...it took me years to find the right one...when they come along you just know it in your heart...i was looking thru the ads in my local paper today (kansas.com) there is a little boy that is 10 weeks no paper for sale...they only want $250 for him...

i know wichita, ks is far from canada but just wanted to let you know that there are yorkies out there...i already have a house full but i love looking through the classifieds to see these puppies...hehe...

i don't know the breeder but she has a local number...a friend of mine was looking for a male yorkie and i was trying to see if she would go see him...so i can go along...hehe

maybe you could fly into wichita to get him...hehe for $250 & the cost of your plane ticket it would probably be cheaper than $1800...just an idea...but then i don't know how it works with bringing doggies across the border...sorry just wanted to make a suggestion

In Canada CKC, with all capitals means Canadian Kennel Club, which is the equivalent to the AKC, just means Canadian instead of American. When purchasing a pup in Canada you have to ask the breeder.
