| Yorkies-----Hypo-allergenic My DD is allergic to dogs and cats, she breaks out in hives. I did a lot of research before we got Dudley and I had read that Yorkies are hypo-allergenic and she has been fine with Dudley. He does NOT shed, his hair is more of the "silky" and we try to brush him a couple times a week but he does not shed at all. Then we got Miley and her hair is more "course" and I have noticed that she sheds, so thinking maybe it could be from the other dogs she was around (non Yorkies), we have given her 2 baths just in a week since we've had her and she STILL sheds. We can't have a dog that sheds with my DD's allergies. My DD has been breaking out in hives, hubby said last night that she looks like she has Chicken Pox (which she doesn't) but that is how many hives she has. So now, the debate is whether to keep Miley or find her a good home. I can't have my DD being miserable all the time and she is on Zyrtec year round, so we might have to find Miley a new home. We will still keep Dudley of course since she is fine around him. I never thought it would come to this ugggg. |

| Allergies are no fun! I'm sorry to hear that you may have to rehome Miley.

| That is so sad to hear. My oldest son has allergies and doesn't have any problems with Sophie. I hope this passes. Best wishes! |

| What type of hair does Sophie have? See my DD is fine with Dudley, the "silky" hair type and Miley is "course" and she has hives and of course my DD is always holding Miley which doesn't help. |

| Maybe you can cut Mileys hair short and brush her everyday to keep the shedding to a minimum? I know its a lot of work. I have 2 boys and one is silky and one is a cotton coat. Both shed. I see them shake and hair flies off both of them. Kind of a bummer! I thought they were not supposed to shed also! Good Luck with your baby, I hope you dont have to rehome her!

| So this is kind of off-topic, but related at the same time. I've heard that if you get the animal as a baby (puppy in this case) you become more immune to the allergies you once had. (kind of confusing I know, but bare with me) I have been allergic to cats all my life.. horrible itchy eyes, running nose, sneezing constantly. Well at my apartment complex we could only have cats and I wanted a pet so badly since I was living there alone. So I got a siamese kitten (he was 9 weeks old).. plus I also heard that siamese are not as bad for allergies.. So we got him. He stayed out of my bedroom most of the time and def off my bed. I've never reallly had too much of a problem with him. He does now sleep with me on my bed and it works fine.. so I'm kind of immune to him since I've had him since he was a baby. I think their dander and fur is different then.. Just thought i'd throw that thought in. Hope it all works out!

| I have the same kind of story as 'tobysmom328' in that I was born with allergies and have had asthma since I was 2 years old... a few decades ago. The only pet I was allowed to have as I was growing up was a Goldfish! I was extremely allergic to pets and got asthma when I visited my friends houses who had any kind of pet. I've had to go for allergy shots every week and have a puffer as well. Now I have 3 dogs (YT, Shih-Tzu and a Collie/sheppard mix), 5 parrots, 17 finches and a cat) and I have no allergic reactions to them. Of course I didn't get them all at once but over a period of about 10 years. I do not go for allergy shots any more and rarely have to use my puffer. So I agree with 'tobysmom328' in that the more I've been exposed to what I'm allergic to, the more immunity I've built up (slowly). But that's just my experience.
