| Dog and cat issues. HELP! How do I stop my dog from terrorizing our cat?! I mean its an everyday thing. My husband gets so upset at Morgan because she won't leave Bailey, our cat alone. She barks at her and runs after her. He says Bailey was here first so she better learn to leave her alone. I thought she would stop once they were around each other for awhile but its been close to a year and she still won't leave her alone. She wants to play but Bailey doesn't want to. Bailey is declawed. She does bat Morgan in the head but it doesn't phase her. Morgan has plenty of toys plus we let Bree, our border collie in to play in the evenings. It's like she knows that Bailey doesn't like her so it makes her want to bug her even more. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks! |

| How old is Morgan? I know when I had my puppy, she would want to play with Toby, my cat (declawed also), and Toby would just put his paw on her head and kinda play back. I know when I got Charlie (our golden/spaniel mix) he wanted to be in Toby's face and they would "fight" (Toby would hiss and get on his hinds) but they have slowly gotten over it. Toby wasn't used to dogs and now he's learning. That may not help much, but I'm sure others will have better info! Good luck!

| I have four cats and now two dogs. Give your cat an escape route. If he does not want to participate, he won't. One of my cats, the youngest males, he just sits there and takes it. He will talk to the dogs to let them know he would rather not be bothered right now. He has claws, and never once has gone after either of the dogs with them. Just like dogs, cats have their own language. If the ears are not back, there is no hissing and the tail is not fizzed, the cat is not upset and might actually be enjoying the play.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Cats and Dogs I'm having the same problem. I have 3 cats. My youngest is terrified of the puppy. He just wants to play ,but he's hyper and rough. No matter how much he hisses and bats at Aiden,he continues. My friend suggested the spray bottle with water. I tries it ,it gives the cat a chance to get away, but only for that moment. My older two cats are more accepting. I just make sure that when I'm spending time with him, I'm one on one only. He always wants time at night, before the little terror comes up on the bed. Good Luck...Every day is an adventure

| Oh maybe a time out or soda can with pennies in it.. something so that she will know that the cat isn't a big toy. Escape routes are a great idea too!

| Thanks so much for the replies. Morgan is 14 months old and they have been together since Morgan was 8 weeks old. Bailey is NOT playing when Morgan goes at her. She has her ears back and she is hissing. There are times that Bailey will sit on my ottoman and Morgan is on the floor and Bailey will bop her on the head a few times in a row. She looks like a boxer! I think Morgan thinks she is playing and she may be. It's the times that Bailey is just walking across the floor and Morgan just takes off after her. We yell at Morgan to stop. There is a big size difference also. Bailey is about 15 pounds and Morgan is not quite 5. My husband sometimes wishes that Bailey still had her claws. He said she would get her once with them and she would learn to leave her alone. I may try the pennies in the can or the water spray bottle. Thanks again! |

| I have a kitty tree for my daughter's kitty when she is tired of the doggies bothering her. It took her awhile to warm up to my two youngest. She actually wanted to kill Chipper for the first 4 mo. Now she plays with them when she is in the mood.

YT 2000 Club Member | Awe, poor kitty. I wish I had a fix all for your situation, but I don't. The only thing that comes to mind is a shaker can or a squirt gun you can shake or squirt at the pup whenever he messes with the cat.
