I have four cats and now two dogs. Give your cat an escape route. If he does not want to participate, he won't. One of my cats, the youngest males, he just sits there and takes it. He will talk to the dogs to let them know he would rather not be bothered right now. He has claws, and never once has gone after either of the dogs with them. Just like dogs, cats have their own language. If the ears are not back, there is no hissing and the tail is not fizzed, the cat is not upset and might actually be enjoying the play.
