I hate burrs. There are sooo many different kinds of them. In Florida and Georgia, we called them sand spurs because they flourish in sandy areas. One time we were skipping school at the beach in GA and saw a car coming on the beach. No cars allowed so we knew it was a patrol car. We skedaddled and dove into the first area available that looked like it would give us cover. HA! It was full of sand spurs. We picked those little tiny pieces out of ourselves for weeks. MAN! Do they hurt! I guess we got what we deserved. ![]() Here in CA where I am now, the burrs are worse. They call them Goatheads because they have two big spurs on them that make them look like a goat head. When you step on one....it is not an ouch event. It is a scream-a-lot and hop-a-lot and event. Sassy isn't allowed to go to places that have things like that. I am terrified of the foxtails. Their seed is a burr that has a coil on it that will burrow like a corkscrew, even into their ears.

| I usually put a tshirt over Maggie to cover her long hair and pull it up with a rubber band to fit snuggly over her tummy..... I try to keep her on the beach or walkway....I do not let her go exploring during this season.......Max has shorter hair but gets them in his fringe (schnauzer cut) If you carefully snip just around the burr....you will cause less pain and spare some hair. we have them at my apartment ...my girls were getting alot of them each walk so I started changing WHERE we walked and come to find out ..my favorite place was the culprit so we never walk on that grass anymore even though it's so close to my apartment.ps - those who FIND Burrs can always try COWBOY MAGIC to get them out - it coats the hair and is greasy but works | |

It kinda looks like Clover - the first pic is alot of plants or one really BIG one - they grow over the ground I think - I used to have little ones and those suckas were JACKED OUT OF THE GRASS BY ME everytime I saw one - search the net and you can find more pics -

Hi everyone, I am new to this site. I have an 8 yr old male Yorkie named Gizmo. Here is my latest burr story. Yesterday my Mom had him for the afternoon and she brought him home and it was 9 pm, past his bedtime, lol. He went immediately to his bed and went to sleep. Anyway, this morning I saw a big burr stuck in the fur on his right leg. I immediately googled what to do, and it said put any kind of non-toxic oil on it. I have a bottle of vitamin E oil. I put quite a bit of oil on it and kept gently working and pulling and it finally came out! It took me over a half hour, but did not have to use scissors.

We battle these flat brown ones also. They have 2 small points on one end. If these are the one's you are talking about, I was wondering if you know what plant they come from? Jason & I thank you for all your help 😊

The roundish ones with sharp, painful thorns are horrible! We call them 'goats heads' and though careful, seems like once-a-week or so, Piper gets one in one of her feet (but just barely and easily removed). You've gotta be careful when removing, cuz you'll get a sharp pain, too! Hate those little suckers!
