| I did't want one. I wanted a second dog for my boxer to play with, something that was big enough for him to play with but small enough for my to pick up and cuddle. I also wanted a dog that didn't shed much. I liked the look of a yorkie but thought they are way to small to be around an 80 boxer full of energy and three young children. I decided I wanted a silky terrier, a large one, or a sky terrier. Hubby couldn't find either of those but can across a breeder with a big boy yorkie puppy. I was scared at first because he seemed so small. At 10.5 lbs he still seems small to me, but fits into our family perfectly. I guess it is true that once you go yorkie you will always have one.

| Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | Well, I don't know exactly WHEN it was, or even where or how I first heard of/saw the Yorkshire Terrier breed, but from the first moment I saw these beautiful little dogs I dreamt of having one some day. I guess "beautiful" and "little" would be what made me want one. It remained my dream for at least 30 years. Finally about 4 years ago my dream became reality when we found our first yorkie, Lucky , and appropriately named him "Lucky Lady's Dream Dog". Then came Lexie , Toby , and most recently Halle . I am an animal lover in general, and I like most any dog, but Yorkies are the only breed for me now and I can no longer imagine my life without a Yorkie in it!

| When my dh passed away suddenly 2 1/2 yrs ago a few days before my dtr's 17th birthday(xmas day), we decided to get a yorkie to help us thru the grieving process. So, Krysten took her first SS check from her Daddy, found a little girl for sale near us, and bought RoxyJo. She is named after my dh(Joe) and the shirt Krysten was wearing the day we picked her up(Roxy brand). She has been a Godsend for us in filling the void left by Joe's passing. When I ended up having to work 2 jobs, I didn't want to leave Roxy home alone all day(Krysten was away at school) and even tho we had 2 cats and 2 birds, I decided to get another. I found Remi here on YT. He was only 2 hrs away so I went to meet him and fell in love with him. That's my story .

| I have thought they were adorable for a long time. I never knew one personally, but remember first noticing them when Joan Rivers used to show her Yorkie "Spike" off. When our beloved Golden passed, I was in the market for a new dog and based on research of temperament etc. decided on a Pom, which besides his barking, I couldn't be happier with. Then I had a yearning to get another dog to be his companion, but this time a female. I almost passed on Yorkies because when you research the breed you hear a lot of negatives ie: tons of grooming, yappers, greasy hair with a dirty smell, worst breed to potty train, will never be 100 percent potty trained etc. Well to make a long story short I made an impulsive decision and got my girl and she is pretty much 100 percent trained and the sweetest little thing with a sassy disposition Her truly most annoying habit is being underfoot constantly and not understanding she needs to distance herself a little like our Pom does, but we still make sure not to step on her, I'm just scared I will trip over her badly some day. |

| I have always loved animals, but I've only ever had cats. My bf is allergic to cats, so we started looking for hypoallergenic dogs. And then we met the Yorkie who lives across the hall, and we were hooked. We've done a lot of research--I'm so glad my bf found YT because this has been such a great place to learn from! Now we are waiting for our puppy--hopefully by the end of the summer! We're going to name her in honor of the dog that made us fall in love with Yorkies: Ella. |

| When I was younger I asked my father for "a puppy that would stay a puppy forever" and he got me my first yorkie, Tasha. Tasha then had 2 babies-a boy and a girl and we kept them both, Mickey and Minnie. We still own Minnie and she lives with my mom in El Paso, she is now 14. Tasha, sadly, was killed by one of our larger dogs, and Mickey escaped and was hot by a car. I had always wanted a yorkie for myself after i moved out and Minnie (who was MY dog), stayed with my mom bc we felt she was too old to move and was happy in her home. Sooo my grandmother got me Abbey for my birthday in March and now I have Abs! My grandmother also has her own yorkie, Toby. And my sister had one too. So I guess they run in the fam.

| I grew up with Lhasa Apsos and Shi Tzu's but my bf didn't like them, he thought they looked too girly and didn't like their smooshed faces (but they're so cute!). My bf has allergies so I wanted to find a dog that didn't shed and was small because we live in a condo. I bought a book and we weighed the pro's & con's of all the breeds and Yorkies came out on top. It was really hard for us to find a breeder initially but we came across a great breeder that is a member of the YTCA. We were 3rd on the waiting list but the 2 people ahead of us couldn't take the dog at the time so we were top of the list which was great 'cause Xena was the only puppy in the litter. About 4 months later we added Izzy to our family, our breeder was keeping her to show but she just wasn't big enough so we got her. I think it's interesting how many of us started out just wanting one but end up getting more. They're addicting! When my bf and I get a house I would love to get a boy to go along with the girls. (shh, don't tell my bf that!) ![]() Yorkies are the best and I couldn't imagine my life without them! I doubt I would ever get another breed.

| I had to BEG my bf for a dog for weeks before he finally "allowed" me to have one. When it finally came time to choose I pretty much had my heart set on a toy poodle. Then I saw an ad someone nearby had posted having Yorkipoo puppies...so I thought "well I'll just go look..." |

I got my first one when I was first married in 75. For the life of me I can't remember how I got stuck on this particular breed, but I've never wanted anything else since (I had poddles as a young girl living with Mom). By the way, your girl is very pretty.

| I can remember when I was a little girl, always looking at Yorkie's and wishing I could have one! I've always thought that they are the most beautiful breed of dogs. Growing up, there was NO way I could've ever gotten a Yorkie and it wasn't until after getting married that I had enough time to dedicate to one. After a disheartening 6 month search, my MIL called me and said she wanted to get me a Yorkie if she could. I argued (because I am prideful!) but finally said okay. She found Xavier & the rest is history
