| ![]() When DD went off to college I had separation anxiety real bad & my good friend had a Maltese. I called her breeder and he had a male for me to look at. That was my dear Jack (RIP). I had Jack 5 years & after he passed away DH & I were so sad. Our other dog would not eat or play. My sister had a friend who had to re-home her little brown dog so my sister told her that we needed her. She gave us her little brown outdoor dog, Maggie. Sis went and picked her up the night we drove the 2 hrs to her house to get her. She gave me an envelope with some papers and we went home. This little (7lb) one was frightened from the traffic on the highway and just clung to me under a blanket. She was so dirty from living out in the yard that I knew she needed a bath before bed time & her nails trimmed. We got home and I scrubbed her 3X and trimmed her nails. Our little brown dog was a 1 1/2 yr old, beautiful, silver & tan Yorkie. The paperwork in the envelope was her AKC papers, signed over to us. That first night, our other dog gobbled his supper, played fetch with his new sister and we stopped being so sad. We all cuddled up in bed that night and life was good again.

| ![]() We had Afghan hounds for years when my kids were growing up, after the kids left home I started looking into getting another Afghan hound and some how got into researching the yorkie breed, while still trying to find a Afghan hound breeder, not really sure how the yorkie breed won over the Afghan hound breed, but I can tell you this they are alike in a lot of ways, coat, gentleness, head strong temperment, intelligence, the Afghan hound is a aloof breed, where the yorkie is a love bug and wants to be love on, they both have the human form though. The Afghan hounds were easy to housebreak then the yorkies. I guess my 3 kids being raise with large dogs have kept to large dogs my oldest daughter has a chocolate lab, my son has a black lab, and my youngest daughter has a lab mix and a great dane. |

| ![]() After losing my 16yr old Terrier I did not want another. Couldn't deal with the pain of saying good-bye again. Three years later I missed having a dog so much I talked myself into a Yorkie. My girlfriend had a golden female, 6lbs and was 13yrs old so I knew the breed had longevity, was small, good with kids and did'nt need to be walked for 20 mins 3x day like my terrier. I read up on the breed and liked what I read. So the search began. I was hoping for a rescue but each application I filled out never was responded to. I worked and did not have a yard! Not knowing about puppy mills/pet stores I did purchase him from one. He was the cutest darn little ball of fur I ever did see. Well the end of the story is he is not small, has to be walked for 20mins 4x a day but is wonderful with my grandchildren, loving with me and it the light of my life. All 15lbs of him! ![]() |

| ![]() When I lived with my grandma for awhile she had a yorkie who I just fell in love with, he was so crazy! I already had a Boston terrier though and right after I moved out she got out of the yard and dissappeared. I was devastated, so I kept checking the pound for her and one day a Boston terrier was on Petfinder and I had to go see, well, it wasn't her, but, I couldn't leave her there so I ended up with Karma, and had her for 5 yrs until this last September. Sadly, she passed away with heart failure. Well, I had just found out my heart problems from 4 yrs ago where back so I was really depressed about Karma and my own heart. I had been researching yorkies for awhile and my stepson's mom called the day after Karma died and I was just a balling my head off, and she suggested we go "look" at the yorkie's down the road from her, she had a breeder living nearby. So I went and didn't intend to get one that day, but we came home with CoCo, who everyone has fallen in love with, including my husband, who wasn't real keen on Karma. She has been the most fun and sweetest little thing ever. In December we got her a miniature dachshund sister a friend was rehoming, Maggie. They are close to the same age and now I can't imagine life without either of them! I still have this feeling I will end up with another yorkie or two if I can later... They are my favorite for sure! I am doing much better with my heart too, I got a pacemaker and now feel loads better!

| ![]() Our daughter was looking for a cute, fluffy rescue dog for me. She found Scooter the day before he was to be taken to PetSmart to be put up for adoption. We went by the Vet's office, where he had just been neutered, to take a look. He was all dopey and sleepy but it was love at first sight. We went back later that day and paid the rescue lady 100.00. Best investment ever! He was 4 at the time and we've had him for almost 9 wonderful years now. ![]()

| ![]() When I was 8 years old, one of my parent's friends had a yorkie and I absolutely fell in love with her. All I wanted for my birthday, Christmas, anything was a yorkie and my mom said no. I cried and cried and cried. I was just beside myself. My mom said that since we lived on a ranch that was no place for such a dog....she never allowed pets inside the house. Then my life got full with school, boys, cheerleading, volleyball, college and so on.... ....So, here I am 30 years later and one of my associates has this 4 year old yorkie that I love up everytime she brings him into the office. One day, I just decided I was going to look into getting a yorkie puppy and see if I could handle the responsiblity.....so my co-worker went with me and sure enough I fell in love and brought my lil guy home that very day. I am in love and have no regrets for waiting 30 years for my dream to come true. I am a much better mom at 38 and I would have been at 8. He was SO worth the wait!!!! ![]() Thanks for letting me share my story.

| ![]() I had just bought my first house! I wanted a poodle or a yorkie because of less shedding. My friend knew of a poodle who's owner had died. So, there was my poodle. One week after that a patient of mine asked if anyone would want a little yorkie. Well, I had to go see him. He flew around the corner on 2 wheels barking his head off and it was instant love. He was 3.5 pounds and 3 years old. The owners said he kept running off. (He wasn't neutered, DUH) So, I had him neutered the next day and never had another problem with him. He was my love. He died at age 8. He was responsible for 3 of my friends getting yorkie's because everyone who met him fell in love with him. I will always have a yorkie, there is just something special about them. I wish I had enough room to have 10! So the moral of the story is...I couldn't decide on a poodle or a yorkie and ended up with one of each..both for free!

| ![]() I told hubby that I had a hole in my heart that only a little dog could fill. Dtr grown and married so no little ones around. I had decided on a poodle cause I wanted one that would stay small. We went to the flea market one day and there was a breeder there who had a yorkie with him. Hubby said go ask him some questions. He kept sending our son in law back with more questions and finally told me why don't you get a yorkie. The breeder had some pups due soon and gave us his number and told us when to call back. When my son in law called him he had a litter but all were promised but 1 male. By this time my dtr and son in law wanted one so I told them to go for it. They got Gremlin and he is great. I found a backyard breeder (I know this now) and got Gypsy who is perfect for me. She is small and loves to cuddle. Gremlin is a fun loving always on the go kind of guy so I made the better choice for me.

| ![]() I had been looking to get a dog for a while. I had a dalmatian when I was little which was a horrible experience because he would destroy everything. Everyone in my family agreed after that, that we would never get another dog. About 6 months ago I realized that I now had time on my hands after starting college, and I wanted something to care of, but since I am too young to have kids and don't have anyone to have kids with I just thought a dog would be the best thing. I asked my parents because I still live with them but they said no, even though I was willing to pay for it. Well after a couple weeks of convincing they finally said yes. I started looking at pet stores ( I didn't know what I do now) but the prices seemed crazy. At the time I was looking for either a maltese or a yorkie, but then that week I met a maltese which would bark and bite which kind of turned me off to the breed, so I was focusing on getting a yorkie. I wasn't necessarily looking for a "tea-cup" I wanted one more sturdy. Then out of coincidence I was eating breakfast at a cafe and the classified section was right in front of me. I called a couple numbers, one was a 6 month old yorkie, but the guy seemed very anxious to get rid of it. So then I called the next number and happened to stumble on a breeder. She gave me an excellent price and was very helpful, informative, and professional. She shows Yorkies and I went to her home which was spot clean, showed me the parents and the other babies from the litter. When I saw Dino I knew he was the one I wanted he was one of the larger ones and had this confident attitude about him. Since I got him I have never turned back, everyone in my family absolutely adores Dino, even my brother which is not much of an animal lover. The main blessing he has been to me is that he has given energy to my sickly grandparents. Before I got Dino all they would do is watch tv all day and complain about aches and pains. Now I take Dino over almost everyday and they both get up, start throwing balls for him to catch, carry him, and they smiles. It is funny because when I get there they have his bowl filled with water, some snacks, and his favorite toys waiting for him. When I don't go they get sad.... He has truly been such a blessing to everyone in my family.

| ![]() What great "tails".... heres mine... long, long ago, a family in CA had 3 boys and a lil chocolate brown mini poodle named Coco. 2 years after Coco a lil baby girl was born...ME! Coco was my constant companion for 16 years! She slept with me everynight and we did everything together. She taught me what LOVE was. When we moved to IL when I was 4, my brother wanted a golden. In comes Sydney....then, Barney, then Simon and then Shiloh. Not to mention all the cats and hamsters and other lil creatures that "followed" me home. After I grew up and had a home of my own, I got Cody (a sweet golden) and then cooter (also a golden) and started to breed my own goldens ( as I knew the breed and had them most of my life). When Cody passed at 13.. I knew I didnt want another big dog. Then came Spike. A lil maltese who ran away from his own home 3 times to me. After the 3rd time, I decided he was meant for me. I had him for 6 years until he died Oct of 06. I loved him dearly. I was shattered. So brother #3 had met Spike and they loved him and wanted a small dog so they got a yorkie, Stormy. When I saw him...I knew I was in love. So now they have 3 and I have 2. Sadly, Stormy was attacked and killed by a coyote in AZ where they live, so after a while they got Frankie who is Duncans half brother. And we all lived happily ever after. THE END ![]()

| ![]() As a little girl I fell in love with yorkies...well with almost every terrier breed. When I got married, I already had a mini schnauzer, and when dh and I decided to get a second dog, we found a shih tzu. She lived with us for almost 16 years before going to the rainbow bridge. She was only 6 lbs and was our little peanut. After a 2 year period of mourning, I was debating what breed of dog to get. Neither dh or I wanted another shih, we felt like we'd be trying to replace her. So...I thought of the yorkie. Terrier personality (I'd always loved schnauzers, airedales, etc.) and tiny size. LOL, my two are 13 and 16 lbs. So much for picking the breed for their size. DH and I are both total converts now. We can't either one imagine ever getting another breed of dog. Or getting any yorkie but a rescue.
