Yappin' at Cat People? I walked Yoda over to our mailbox today (we live on a hill and the mailbox is across the street from us). One neighbor lady, who seemed very timid, was a bit scared of Yoda as she approached. I think Yoda felt that or smelled cat on her, and he started yapping, while sniffing her feet. She became very alarmed and worried that he was going to bite her! Yoda hasn't bit anyone (well anyone but me and his Mommy when we are playing a bit rough around his mouth area)! Does your Yorkie hate cat people too? I think Yoda's traumatized because another friend of mine DROPPED him (from about 3 feet high) a year ago or so. He was a cat person and Yoda couldn't stand him.

Funny....now that I think about it, most of the people I choose to be around are dog lovers. In fact, I can't think of one family member or friend who has a cat with the exception of one person, but she doesn't count because she also has a cute Chihuahua. | |

I think you just forced them to be dog lovers. Yes, it's really dangerous for anyone to toss around our Yorkies. I'd kick their asses if they mess with Yoda! Heh, I just found out Yoda never liked that neighborhood lady. He senses something about her, but he loves the other neighbors we have though (even when they only have a cat)...

They are VERY particular...... I think Yorkies are VERY particular about who they like and who they don't and they don't even have to know that person. Higgins will run right up to some people and kiss 'em all over and then avoid others, even if they appear friendly, like they have the plague. I am convinced they know things we don't know. When we were in Florida this winter, my husband and I both fell in love with a tiny little Yorkie camping near us.....one of the big reasons we got Higgins. "Chanel" walked with her "dad" three times a day and she used to pull him like crazy to our site! He said that we were the only people in the park that she liked! She is a cutie.....and her "dad" is a very lovely man of 51 who is dying of cancer. They had to leave early because his wife's breast cancer came back and both of them are not doing very well. It is sooooo sad to know that Chanel will lose them. But they have a lovely family who will care for her. We have made provisions for Higgins and Pogo if anything should happen to us.....my son will love them for us. I hope everyone has given this some thought.

So you have two Yorkies, Higgin's Mom? Yeah, Yoda really senses something on each person he comes into contact with. He knows what he can get away with with each person too! I'm glad Chanel got you to getting a Yorkie!

And then there is Pogo...... Actually, we do have two dogs, but only one Yorkie, Higgins. Pogo is our 12 year old Doodle (half dachshund, half poodle), 15 pounds of the smartest, most wonderful canine ever born. Pogo is a perfect gentleman in every way. A quiet, laid back hound who never barks and loves to travel and camp with us. Since he is getting on in years, I wanted to get a puppy while Pogo was still spry enough to train him, and he is doing a great job with Higgins. Higgins watches Pogo like a hawk! And, for instance, if someone is walking by our house and Pogo doesn't bark, Higgins doesn't bark. If Pogo is lying down in the sun on the lawn, Higgins lies down in the sun on the lawn. Now Higgins absolutely drives Pogo bonkers jumping in his face all the time and Pogo lets him have it often, with a fierce bark and lunge, but seldom does Higgins yip. Also, Pogo is FIERCELY protective of the little guy when it comes to strangers and other dogs. He gets right in there between Higgins and harm. Then as soon as any threat is over and everything is quiet, Pogo turns and sneers and growls at Higgins as if to say "I think you are a royal pain in the butt, but you belong to our family, so I'll protect you." We have only been home here in Maine a couple of days and Pogo has now actually started to "play" with Higgins. They race around the house playing tag and it is really very cute to watch.

That's great that they both take care of each other! Higgins is pretty smart to be learning from Pogo like that, that's neat he can do that...

We can vouch for Pogo ... he is a gentle sweetheart!! We met him at a Rally down in Florida where his "humans" wintered this past year!! Sorry we didn't get to meet Higgins yet ... but look forward to it! Poor Toto hasn't had any playmates since we adopted her ... she has been "eyeing" the squirrel who lives in a tree outside our window!!

We Casita people sure DO have fun! They are molded fiberglass "eggs" and we lived in ours for 164 straight days this winter! You can see them at http://www.casitatraveltrailers.com We discovered that the majority of people spending the winter in our favorite RV park have dogs, most of them small dogs. It's a wonderful way to get to know people. And mostly you know them as "Chewy's Mom", "Monty's Dad", etc. One of our camping neighbors is a young woman who is the chihuahua rescue person for the State of Wisconsin. She also has a degree in Canine Behavior Therapy and was a great resource for all of us! She had 5 dogs camping with her, including Henry, the most mannerly and delightful cocker spaniel I have ever met. Kim organized a potluck dinner at their campsite for all the dogs and their owners on our camping loop. We ALL had a wonderful time! One of the reasons we got Higgins when we were camping was the opportunity to get him really socialized with people, dogs, kids and strange places. We live on a dead end little dirt road in Maine so he doesn't get to socialize as much at home. Now he'll be an experienced little camper when we go back there next winter. But Toto and Higgins will have a playdate long before that, I hope! Patrick (Bettyeanne's hubby) and I still have to eat our way through a big bunch of mudsuckers in Louisiana! Our spouses hate crawfish.......

Ahh, such an interesting group of travellers. That must be a fun way to go all around the coutnry in an RV like that. I haven't been on an extended car road trip in 20 years, since I was a kid!

Actually, on the last vacation, we met a handful of people, including the "Son of God"! He was barefoot and all and was a semi-stalker, I think... But then again, I think it's just the relaxed attitude of Hawaii and its vacationers. Hawaiians were very friendly to us and it was quite a trip. We didn't stay at the basic hotel, which is probably why we met some nicer folks.
