My son moved back in with us & brought his Pit Puppy with him. We have a 5 mth old Pit Puppy with 4 Yorkies. Everything is working out fine. We never leave them unattended with the Pit. She is so big & energetic - just wants to play - But doesn't realize she could hurt them with those big paws. She has learned to be calm & lay down so the Yorkies will come to play with her. It has taken alot of constant training & were not done yet! I have been using what I had learned at Petsmart Puppy classes on her. Watch Ceasar Millan - Dog Whisperer. Good Luck to you!!!

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | I think a Yorkie can do well with any breed of dog as long as you keep an eye on them and correct any overexuberance. Once you're confident they play nicely, then I think you can safely leave them alone.

| We had a Dobbie when I was growing up (did not have yorkies at the time) and also two cats. They all loved eachother! Bandit (the doberman) was the sweetest girl ever!

| If the Dobie is a puppy s/he will need to be watched: they don't know their own strength. Max lives with SIX greyhounds, (a major feet) and a shep. It is all in the training, and knowing your dogs!!

| I see the majority so far has said that a Dobie and Yorkie can do well together. I have to jump onto the other said and disagree. It's not really about the breed so much as it is about the size. The Dobie is going to be even as a puppy so much bigger then your Yorkie. Simple play can hurt your Yorkie. Then you have the issues when they grow. Dogs are pack animals and will establish their dominance. What if the Dobie you get is alpha? I have five total of three Yorkies and two Yorkie mixes. I have two that are both Alpha of of which is 13 lbs. and the other 5 lbs. There are problems. I have to watch them very very closely. Now Noel is 17 lbs. and I have a 4 lbs. Tia that bullies Noel so it could work reverse, but are you willing to take that chance? That is something that only you can answer. In my opinion the problem lies not only in the size difference but even more importantly in the personality. As puppies you have no idea what the temperment or personality will be unti they are an adult or close to it. How they were raised does not guarantee temperment, believe me. Jersey we've had since 10 weeks and socialized her by taking her with us to bb games etc. and yet she's stand offish, alpha and we have to watch her with strangers. She is far different from my others. My personal opinion is it is really not worth the chance you would be taking. Elaine |

| Dobermans can be very loving. Growing up together if they both have good temperments things should go well. Like jersey said, have to watch for the alpha factor. Don't want a pup spirit to be broken or beatdown. |

| I think that they can get along just fine. You just have to make sure that you are the alpha and leader. I have a boxer and a yorkie and never allow either one of them to take a dominant role over another. If I see any of this behavior they are quickly corrected by saying " No" and if I see it again I will lay the showing dominant behavior on their back. I have no problems with my boys and they have run of the house even when I am gone, they know that they are both equally last on the pecking order of our family.

| IMHO...I think that dogs can all get along together, regardless of the breed, as long as YOU have established yourself as the Alpha in the house. With the size difference, they would have to be supervised at all times but I don't believe there would be any agression. Dobermans have a very sweet, loving perosnality anyway.

| I must say, the size of a dog is cause for "watching" but they can all live together well.. I have a 95 lb. lab and Hope is 5 1/2 lbs... they get along wonderfully and Laci knows what EASY means, she is always very careful when around the little ones and will lay down for them to "love" on her... I do agree, STRONGLY that they must be watched and NEVER left alone with the big dog but it can work, it does for me.... Good Luck!

| As with any dog if you get a male, you should get it neutered otherwise it could bring unwanted aggression towards your other pets. I've never owned a large dog perse, but I do care for my brother's lab mix from time to time. The lab knows I am the boss here, and will follow the order I lay out. One of my neighbors has two female dobermans, they never showed aggression towards my boys just curiousity.

BANNED FOR NOT MAILING PRODUCTS PURCHASED | I'm not to fond of Dobbies, about 4 years I was attacked by 1. He was our own dog. We adopted him from our local animal shelter so he was not a puppy. I truly think it makes a difference when you have a dog from puppyhood. We did not know any of his back ground. Good luck with your decision! |

| Dobies can be very loving dogs...as is with any dog, there are a couple bad apples...but for the most part they are very lovable dogs and have a really good temperament. These dogs crate very well..if your looking for a larger dog then take that into account, especially with having a smaller yorkie. I believe if your going to get a larger dog then this would be one that you should definitely look into. Don't let others scare you, with "these dogs are scary agressors" they're not, they're just like every other dog...just be mindful and train them...labs are supposed to be wonderful dogs too but most of them weight 90 or above so they can hurt your yorkie too...just research a bunch of breeds and make the decision that's right for you! Good Luck!

| I agree that i is not so much the breed but the size, we are debating this same issue in our home right now(the SO wants his own baby). Copper plays well with my moms mastif pit mix but through the puppy stages we had to have alot of very controlled interactions he is 4 lbs and she is 80 lbs we both got the two at the same time and they have really grown together it is alot of work and still we never leave the two of them unattended. I think that it would be fine to get the doberman it everyone in your home is willing to take on the extra work of making sure that your yorkie is safe. I have to say that it is so neat watching such a big dog with such a little dog.
