I think that they can get along just fine. You just have to make sure that you are the alpha and leader. I have a boxer and a yorkie and never allow either one of them to take a dominant role over another. If I see any of this behavior they are quickly corrected by saying " No" and if I see it again I will lay the showing dominant behavior on their back. I have no problems with my boys and they have run of the house even when I am gone, they know that they are both equally last on the pecking order of our family.
