| Welcome to YT! It is great to have a groomer in house! Especially one that's aware of the delicate trachea. Fantastic! |

| Welcome to YT... I am sure there will be lots of questions from many of us.. I groom my own 4 yorkies all the time..I have not found a yorkie groomer in all of my days that lived close to me.. I keep there hair long.. I do bangs but not much.. I do top knots also..I shave under there feet... clean up there little private areas..shave the tips of their ears..I do not know how to do anal glands.. and was told if you do not know how to do it you could hurt them,, so if ever needed my vets looks after that part.. I do not know how to do a puppy cut.. and would love to know.. or have some one show me.. I have a tiny 5 year old that acts much older.. and now he hates being groomed and combed.. would love to find a groomer that knows how to do a yorkie puppy cut with out making the poor yorkie look a mess.. So I am sure we are all ready for some tips. and more knowledge on this grooming.. |

I am considering having my Sassy cut shorter for the summer but I have read so many stories on here about taking them to be cut and when they pick them up afterwards, they get the shock of their lives! I am blessed in having a good groomer but I am still a bit fearful that what I say may not be what she hears. | |

| welcome to YT! my little darling just turned 4 months old on April 2nd. i haven't brought sophie to a groomer yet so all these horror stories of grooming-going-wrong makes me slightly worried! i guess having you here will help ease the pain a little bit. Sophie is my first yorkie, so i have never brought a dog to a groomer before. i really don't even know what to say. but i know the day is fast approaching where i will have to bring my baby. so it's good to know that we have a professional here to help us yorkie moms that have very little experience with groomers |

| I have been grooming for many years. Hope to retire in a few. Trimming under the tail. I use a Romani ClipperVac. It keep-s the blades cool with suction. W/ or without CV I would say use a #10 and I clip holding tail up and clip gently upward. Coat handler has a non greasy cream called "Skin Works" that helps keep skin from friction burn. Getting a groomer to listen to your wants is hard. Ask them to write it down and repeat back your desires. Nicely say Pleeeeeze, this is how I want it. A nice tip encourages a groomer to want to please lol. Puppy trim: I use a #30 under Wahl metal snap on combs. I go against the grain but I have suction with a Laube Ivac attached to ClipperVac. Remember, I have expensive professional equipment. I also recommend a small High velocity dryer. Open nozzle. Long fur can tangle with air flow. Fur should be dried however or it can tangle even more. I also Use Les Pooch de mat brush for getting out snarles. There is NO substitute for frequent brushing........but you alll know that. The earlier a pup learns grooming manners the better. |

| I see someone lost their baby New Years Eve of all days. I am so sorry to see that. I lost two dogs in 07 also. I also lost favorite doggie clients. Yes, I love them as if they really are my own. Even tho I am a groomer, I think if you can groom your dogs yourself, that is fine. There are some good videos and books out there. I think a good table is important, and professional equipment. A pair or two of scissors and a good clipper. Keep those nails trimmed. Anal glands? I personally feel it is a vet job. If you don't start it they don't need it as often. IMO. Little dogs do sometimes need it more than large dogs. My 3yr old Min Schnauzer has never had them expressed and does not show a need to yet. Yorkie people really love their little kids. |

| I would be nervous too. I am lucky I can groom my own. I am Mobile and i have a local mobile friend who was a vet tech. She came over to remove ear stitches and bathe my pups while I videoed their 1st. She was very gentle. We did it in the kitchen sink. I also have another Friend who does in home grooming in clients' home. Doesn't even mind if they watch. That might be an option for some of you. I suggest the low stress Mobile way. Faster, no other scarey dogs, more personal, yadda, yadda. As for spring/summer trims. Tell the groomer you want the longest length snap on comb. It will be short but not shaved. Westie blended style heads are the same as Yorkie puppy trim heads. With all the members here I am surprised I am the 1 and only professional groomer on board. Mobile groomers don't cage dry. Shouldn't mind giving Yorkie references. No substitute for yrs of experience. There are thousands of good conscientious groomers in this world. I know many across the USA and even Scotland and Wales.
