| Harness for a Yorkie newborn- 8 weeks? Fritz will be 8 weeks old when we bring him home- we went through 3 or 4 crappy harnesses with Roxy when she was teeny tiny and are looking for a decent one. Does anyone have any recommendations for a harness that will cover us until he's old enough to fit into a Puppia vest? |

| wow that is way too young to be getting your puppy! but that is another discussion... Anyhow...for a harness, you could try a ferret harness. I have used them with much success in the past. Sue & Cricket |

| same question i had! i won't be getting my furbaby for another 2 months, when he's bout 12 weeks old, and i just dont know what kind of harness i should get and/or how fast i can expect him to grow out of one. I really like the silk ones i've seen here at YT...but wonder how soon he'd grow out of it

| Actually a ferret harness is probably the right size. When Mango was little I used a small cat harness that I picked up at Pets Mart. It worked perfectly until she was ready for a "big-girl" harness vest. Lauren

| I have always used the kitten harnesses when the pups are young or smaller size. 8 weeks a Yorkie pup should still be with the mother and breeder. Usually when a toy breed has problems you will usually see it between 8 -10 weeks of age. www.YTCA.org recommends 12 weeks of age before going to their new homes. Deana Prestigeous Yorkies |

| I'll think about it. That timing worked out best for everyone involved and I have read in multiple books that 8 weeks-12 weeks is standard. Will see. Not going to change the topic of the thread though. I'm really not a big fan of dictatorial regimes like the YTCA- if it were up to them only 10 people in the world would be breeding yorkies and half of them would be in bred...yes, this is from personal experience...my first yorkie died because my "YTCA approved/AKC champion" breeder couldn't stop herself from selectively breeding her dogs, who happened to be cousins. So...yeah I don't really respect that much. Sorry, on a bit of a rant...I don't listen to the YTCA or the AKC- I listen to the books in the bookstore. And my breeder- whose Yorkies are healthy. |

They go through a fear/imprint period between 9-12 weeks when the mother teaches them "social" behavior and other good things. Without that, many become fear biters later in life and have other behaviorial problems or fears. Breeders who sell so young are not doing justice to their pups of their buyers. Again, just some facts, not meaning to be insulting to you. Sue & Cricket | |

| Congratulations on getting your new little family member. I think those times are so exciting. We adopted Razael right before Christmas and had to get a Ferret harness & matching leash for her since she was so tiny. They really are cute harnesses and under $10.00 at Petco. I'm sure Petsmart has them too. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...2-23-07006.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...2-23-07003.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...2-23-07009.jpg |

| Hi There, Congratulations on your new baby I agree with Yorkiedaze, a ferret harness is perfect for a new puppy and not a major expense since he will grow out of it pretty quickly. I look forward to seeing pictures of Fritz! Warm regards,
