| I am worried I am Worried about Daisy eating nothing but lamb or chicken baby food meat in jars ! (not the chicken or lamb sticks but the strained meat) She would not eat anything else when we got her and now she is hooked-HELP I have tryed everything,She will not touch hard Puppy food or canned puppy food. I make her shredded chicken with rice and veggy's but she just looks at me like I can't eat this stuff you eat it.How do I get her to at least try something good for her? Can She survive on only baby food meat with vitamins once a day {crunched in baby food of course}And some nutra-cal laced in.Arrrghhh I am worried about her getting the right nutrition Thanks

| What if you mixed the baby food in with the dog food - would she eat it then? Then you can slowly start giving less baby food & more dog food until she is weaned off of it? My pigs/dogs will eat anything so I'm not too sure!! Good luck!

| I think if you get her started on hard dog food, she will eventually eat. They may boycott, but these babies will not starve themselves. Besides she needs the hard food for her teeth, otherwise you will spend a lot of money getting her teeth cleaned. Just put out some kibble and eventually she will eat it.

| She probably can survive on the baby food but she will not thrive on it and be healthy. She needs fiber to make her poo the consistency to keep her anal glands open. Her teeth will suffer greatly. How old is she? How much does she weigh? Could she not gofor a short period of time without the baby food or mixed with crushed premium dog kibble? I don't think they can go 24 hours without eating but maybe just wait longer than usual and see if she will eat it. Try putting food in a flat saucer or in a different dish that she is accustomed. My dogs like to eat out of a flat dish; if I feed in a bowl, they will not eat.. |

| Tryed it but Thanks for thr reply LOL She eats the baby food and leaves the kibble. It really is not funny because she would rather starve then eat anything else but see,My mom had a little Taco bell dog and he died at age 16 but the vet said that because the dog ate only shredded chicken and lamb all his life that he had brittle bones that would just splitter so as You can imagine the poor baby had alot of problems in the years before he died.He even fell off the couch and broke his jaw and the vet could not put pins in to help him because his bones just splittered.I am sooo worried Thanks alot

Yorkie Lover Donating Member | I would agree with Biddy's mom...I would put just a little bit of dry dog food in the baby food to disguse it and see if that works...if it does you can start mixing more dog and less baby...she really needs the nutrition of the dog food and the dry is best for their teeth...the little ones can be picky but sometimes you just have to make them think it is their idea!!!

| Wait till she is older before you play hardball with her about food. My vet was very upset with me when Gracie was four months old, because I basically had a stand off with Gracie over food. She would not eat anything but cooked chicken and I learned small dogs really needed hard dog food so I gave her the hard dog food and for two days she would not eat ANYTHING. I told the vet and she told me while they are puppies to never let them go without food because they are growing. I told her Gracie had not eaten for two days and let's just say the vet was not pleased. She said to wait till they are adults before you force them to eat hard dog food.

| You've already gotten some excellent advice about mashing the food. One of my dogs is super picky also. I just left the dry out and she started eating it. Before that she was eating baby food also.

| Have you tried Science Diet Puppy Lamb and Rice dry food? Or Royal Canin for Yorkies? What might help is to take dry food, along with Natural Balance Lamb solid, which looks like salami, mix it with a little sliced cheese. I take my hand and mix it up, pressing the cheese and NB so the dry food has the smell of it. Sometimes I have to hand feed Lacey, don't ask me why and sometimes she will eat if I put a little on the carpet. Again, who know why, but it works. My other thought is the amount, just use a little and have fresh down 24/7 for a puppy. Chloe liked to play with her dry food, she would take one, toss it around and then eat one little nugget. She would do this with each piece, it took her hours to finish. |

| My Shelby is almost 16 weeks old and she was just like your pup when we got her (4 weeks ago). She is still NOT a great eater, but we are getting there. I tried every kind of combo pet food, baby food, dry food, people food combo possible. Things that work for us. 1) If your dog likes Nutrical, put a little on a few pieces of kibble and leave it in her bowl or try to hand feed to her. (chop up kibble first ?) 2) Play a game with the kibble...throw a piece and see if she will run and get a piece, maybe even eat a few. 3) Go to Petco and buy a 99 cent sample roll of Natural Balance. It's good dog food that can be used as a treat. (see post above) I chop it up for Shelby as a meal sometimes. (Better than baby food right?) 4) Take the food away, don't let her have anything for a few hours. Then "present" the food as if it's the greatest thing ever. Good luck. Shelby is still a work in progress but yesterday I tried the Nutro that everyone on the board recommends. She seems to like it! She ate 12 whole kibble OUT OF HER BOWL in one sitting. Exciting. | I started giving Macy her small dry kibbles as treats from my hand, she went crazy for them one at time but won't eat them in her bowl. My husband puts about 10 kibbles on the floor when they are playing and she eats them- but never out of her bowl? I don't know why she will drink her water but turns her nose up at the kibbles.
