| ![]() I live in a rural area with lots of hawks and I've even seen a coyote go through our yard. I'm terrified when Scooter goes outside even though the back is fenced in so I keep him inside most of the time. We've had several small dogs in our County killed by Coyotes. I never thought I would see them in NC.

| ![]() i was looking for this thread... ok.. so we have had problems with hawks as well with our little puppy (almost 4 month old) ... up until yesterday she wasnt even two pounds. we make sure to keep an eye on her outside and watch the sky, but we havent had a problem with them since we started dressing her up when she goes outside. i think having on a dress or a jacket might deter them a bit?? they might not see them as "animals" or something. i dunno, i thought maybe you could try this as well |

| ![]() update to HAWK WATCH! Ok, now its WAR w/ these birds! I took Piper out in the front yard for an emergency wee wee, and as I stood watching her, one of the very large trees in my yard was dropping leaves.......or so I thought! When i paid attention to the "leaves" I realised they were feathers! I looked up and there was one of the devil birds 20 feet above me plucking a newly deceased dove! Looking at me! I was like ok pal, thats it! I mean I get that they are gods creatures too and they have a right to be who and what they are, but I would just like them to be devil birds in someone elses yard. This is getting WAY outta hand here. Its like they are mocking me! Lil suits of armour for the puppies are in the works! Da** birds! Just outta answers here, but I did make hubby go out and clean up the "remains" of the poor lil dove victim! |

| ![]() Well, I live in the country, but I'd get a pellet gun an pop those hawks!! Can you call animal control- i'd say it is swooping you and pup!! Or call the Conservation Dept. Also, I'd try windchimes in the trees- and wind socks- with lots of streamers! And it maytake more than 1 Also I'd take a broom and smack at the tree they get in!! Wouldn't you like to see me attacking a hawk!!!lol! My BF would go hide!!!! ![]()

| ![]() I was driving to a new church not too far from my house a couple of Sunday's ago when I saw one swoop down. I did not realize how big they are, and I think one would be fully capable of taking a smaller yorkie off, but might struggle with sexy Mika

| ![]() Eagle's also can swoop a small animal up! Really if one of these birds of prey get hold of any animal- the claws will probably pretty much kill it! I don't know what I'd do- but even if you are standing right there- these birds are super fast- and could just fly away with your pup in a split sec!! this would freak me out!

| ![]() Hey I just read this post and noticed youre in Florida. I'm fairly new to Florida, and didnt know there were hawks down here. Which part of Florida do you live? I'm in Delray Beach. I dont think we're close, as I've never seen one. Good luck with finding a solution tho. It's horrible that they are watching you and your babies. Poor lil guys can't even enjoy their own yard. |

| ![]() We have lots of hawks around where I live, too. For a while, I was taking my pistol with me when I took the babies out in the backyard, but I may switch it out for a shotgun. If I shoot straight up in the air it should scare the crap out of 'em anyway. Maybe they'll move on! It's gotten to the point where I see them everyday!

| ![]() Definitely contact the Conservation Department BEFORE you start shooting. The red tailed hawk is legally protected in Canada, Mexico and the U.S. by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918. You can almost always get approval to shoot whenever your animals are threatened, but they like you to ask first. ![]() ![]() |
