HUGE PROBLEM w/ HAWKS! I dont know what to do!!? I am having a terrible time with huge red tailed hawks diving on my 2 wee furbabies! I have a fairly large backyard and Im always outside with them, thank god, but Im scared to death to let them out now. Its happened 3 times now, always missed them, tg but what do I do?? They love to be outside. The hawks dont seem to care if Im there or not. Duncan and Pipers mom |
Not sure but I hope someone has some answers for you. |
you can get one of those big playpens for outside that have a top on them so that the hawks cant get to them or even seen them for that matter |
I was looking at the Pet Edge catalog and saw an expen with a wire cover. I was possibly thinking about that since we have large birds here. From time to time we have buzzards flying here. I live sort of in a rural area on the water. |
great idea on the covered pen! thanks "wondering y i didnt think of that" LOL |
There has been a lot of threads on hawks here, and I've read before that you can hang pots (I believe) to keep the hawks away, someone once suggested having your babies wear bright colors too because the hawk won't think their animals. I hope you can find a solution, I HATE hawks! |
Have you tried putting up those plastic Owls? They seem to work here to keep hawks and crows away from garbage and things. You put them on your fence. |
I worry about hawks too. They're always hovering overhead when I'm out with the boys. A covered pen sounds like a good solution, except they won't have the open space to really run around. I guess it's a trade-off.:( Anything to keep the babies safe. |
I knew someone that had their small dog picked up by a hawk and was going to carry him away but has was wearing a jacket and the little guy weaseled out of the jacket and fell to the ground unhurt. Since then I always have an easy escape jacket on the little ones, who knows if it could help but what if it did. You couldn't use them as target practice could you??:D j/k |
The thought of one of those hawks landing on a wire top cage would be enough to scare the life out of a small Yorkie, I would think. How sad that you can't enjoy your yard with your babies. There must be something that will keep them away. |
The dumb birds land on the "owls" :(. Im sorry to say, my brother lives in AZ, and he has 3 yorkies, and one of his got killed by a coyote in his own fenced backyard! Was horrid! So these birds r making me really terrified. |

Remember the scene from "Steel Magnolias" when the father was shooting the black birds out of the tree?:D When that didn't work for long he shot off firecrackers. Think you could do that! That would chase them out of the county I would think! |
We have a huge problem with them here too. I found a large netting in the Guerney seed catalog that is used for covering fruit trees..etc. I'm trying to think of ways to use this. |
