My little Shadow Donating YT Member | Boarding....& so UPSET! I'm so upset that we had to board my Bella and my granpuppy! It was such a Mistake! Usually, my daughter & I take turns petsitting, but this trip we all went along, me/my husband/my daughter. Bella/Cole were boarded at the Vet for 7 nites. Of course, it was our last option, but you would Think being at a Vet - they would be in experienced hands. I called often to check up on them. The day after I left them when I called, I was told they were not with the cats (as I requested). If they barked, they had to be in kennel run. Well, I did wonder if that would be better because I was concerned about them being in a crate for so long, so I felt a little better that it was for the best. They could then be together and play. I continued to call and check and was told they were eating ok and were fine. They close early on Sat. We got home late Sat so this meant they had to stay 2 more nites. My husband & I were there 7:30 am Mon to get them. I hated that we were not allowed to pick them up earlier on weekend due to regular staff not there to check out, etc. Anyway, they brought them out - my husband grabbed Cole. I grabbed Bella. We were concentrating on giving them Love/Attention when Bella started gagging! The assistant had put one of those leashes around her neck that pulls and of course she was excited and it was really tight. They should Never use these on small dogs anyway! But that's not the worst......out of the corner of my eye as my husband was helping me to get the leash off Bella.....I noticed the assistant holding the 2 red striped beds we had left......(you can see in avatar pic)......they weren't even the same color. Drenched in Urine! I couldn't believe my eyes. I said to her....."What HAPPENED?" She replied.....I don't know. I didn't work this weekend. I was so Angry. I asked, Were they even taken out? She replied - yes, twice a day. I was so Angry, I just wanted to get them out of there and said LOUDLY.....they won't be coming back!! The beds were so bad, we threw them away. I hate to think of what they went through. NEVER AGAIN! And I hope everyone learns from my mistake. I spent today giving them much Needed Love & feeling guilty. I'm not sure how I will handle w/Vet tomorrow, but I'm not letting this go. What would you do?

| This is why I will never board my dog. Taking them out only twice a day (and the last time is probably late afternoon) is not enough. The dogs risk getting UTIs in that situation. Sorry for the bad experience. Hopefully next time you can find someone to watch you babies. |

| should have kept the bed and took them back to him. Tell him you demand a refund or you call the board of vetinary licenese to file a complaint. I would make sure you have another vet lined up... this vet will be pissed. call you animal rights/rescue in your area. |

| That is my beef with boarding at a vet's office. My experience has been very typical to yours. They don't take them out to pee/poo very often even when they are there. Then on weekends they only take them out twice---once in the a.m. and once late afternoon. My guess would be that the dogs are supposed to hold their urine from around 5:30 in the eve. until 7/8 in the morning. That is absolutely crazy! We're going to TX April 5-6 to see our son and his family. Don't want to take all four furbabies along and burden my DIL. I have to keep them in ex-pens and Snowboy, the Pommie, would howl up a storm. He's such a mama's baby; follows me everywhere, and sleeps against me at night. I would like to find a safe place for my Pommie and 1 1/2 yr. old Yorkie, but that could be a problem. I am not going to board them at the vet. There is a girl in town who will feed and take the dogs out. I've used her before but I figured out that she does not play with my animals at all. Returning from one trip, I found the cat's toys exactly where they were when we left. What I would like to do is stay home with my furbabies and just let my husband and our daughter go down to TX. Wouldn't that cause an uproar!

| I have been told they only let the dogs out twice a day when you board them out..even the grooming places, they let them out in the morning, and then right before their dinner at night...Not sure where you are in NC, but, I'm in SC, and if you could have gotten the pups to me, I could have watched them for you..those poor babies.. |

My little Shadow Donating YT Member | Thanks everybody. I know....I wanted to ask the assistants @the Vet if they only go twice a day to the bathroom themselves. I wanted to take pics of the beds, but my husband put in trash outside and they were gone by the time I tore myself away from loving the babies and telling them I was so sorry. Wish I had saved to take back to the Vet!

YT 2000 Club Member | I'd be very straight forward and tell the vet how disappointed you are in how they were cared for. That is totally rediculous!! (sp) So glad you're back now and your furbabies are getting spoiled with lots of love and TLC. Don't be so hard on yourself, you had no idea they'd be cared for in such a way.

| Actually, I have another major complaint. When I flew to my father's funeral in MS, I decided to board my lovey 11 yr. old Pommie, Cassie, because she had congestive heart failure and was on meds. I thought the vet would take better care of her than the little girl down the street. How wrong!!!! My last memory of Cassie was as I walked out the door of the vet's office she was bug-eyed with fright. By the next morning, even before I had taken off from the KC airport, she had died. They said she was coughing a lot which is one of the signs of congestive heart failure. Well, she was hardly coughing at all for me. Why didn't they do something to calm her down? Some meds? Why didn't they increase her heart meds? She was on a low dosage. So not only did I have to bury my father, but I had to come home to no Cassie.

| I have only boarded one of my dogs once. It was at a private boarding place where each dog had their own playpen and the people lived on the premisis. I won't even take Murfee to the groomers because I don't trust any of them and they have to stay in those awful cages waiting their turn. That is so awful but I think that is pretty typical of vets offices. That's why I hate to leave an animal there overnight....like who is there to watch them????

My little Shadow Donating YT Member | I am so Sorry for the loss of your father and at the same time, Cassie. Such a tragic thing to go through. What is happening today with quality care?? It's not just with our loveable furbabies. I've recently gone through medical issues with my Mom and sometimes you can't believe the incompetence of some! Not with Life....too precious.

We would have had to leave him with the vet, and these stories have just scared the living fool out of me.

| It is always so hard to find someone who will care for our babies the way we KNOW they should be taken care of. I'm so sorry you had to come home to this. I'm sure by sharing this you have given many cause to pause and think about where and who should care for their furbaby.
