| About the Washable pads When you use these kind of pads, do the puppies know the difference in them and other throw rugs and carpets? Someone on here brought up this concern and I just wanted to check to see what you all have to say about this issue? Also, are most of you able to let your Yorkies run the house and they are totally potty trained to the pads? I am sooooooooo looking forward to this time, where we can all be together in the livingroom and they will go to the potty area all on their own!!!!!! Thank you so very much for all of your help on this matter!!! Ronda, Harley and Sophia |

| Mine do have the run of most of the house and they use the washable potty pads, however they love throw rugs. We just bought the house we are living in 11 months ago, and part of my requirements for a house was solid flooring on the bottom level. We have wood flooring and tile and it's great. Even though I would love to have throw rugs and accent rugs, I just realize that I can't. They are absolutely irresistable to my dogs. Some others may have some ideas on how they keep theirs off the rugs, but I guess I just use the "eliminate temptation" technique..hehe

| As far as knowing the difference between rugs and pads, it is just training and location. We've only had ONE accident on a throw rug and that was because I was dumb enough to put a throw rug down right next to the potty pad. No other accidents on throw rugs after I thumped myself in the head for that. My older Shih Tzu has the run of the house all the time. He is 11. Coby is 1 year old and has free reign of two big rooms and two stairways. We are still in the process of enlarging his freedom. But that can only be done when we are 100% focused on watching him 100% of the time in the new rooms. My mom has been very ill for a few months, so we haven't had the needed focus. We simply avoid failure by not giving him the chance to make mistakes. That way, Coby is ALWAYS SUCCESSFUL!! Although we spent most of our time in the kitchen, I totally remember the frustration of sitting in the living room watching tv and having Coby in the kitchen (full view but separated by a doggy fence). How I longed to have him lay in my lap while I watched tv. I was soooo excited when I finally got that!! Patience, patience patience. It will pay off.

| I just put a partially used paper pee pad on top of the washable one (the washable one is much larger), and Holly took to it right away. The breeder I got Holly from used washable pads. I am now starting with Gracie. So far, so good.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I am still using a pee pad on top of the washable ones as Roxie is still having accidents. I hope to eventually stop using the disposable ones. They do pee on the washable pads as well because I don't cover them completely with the paper pads. What I do with Roxie is if she has just peed she can have free run for a couple of hours. I tracked it and she can gp anywhere from 2 -6 hours without going. So after 2-3 hours I tell her to go potty on the pad and she will usually go. I do keep them all confined to the back of the house where I am mostly since I didn't do this when I first got Roxie and she developed some bad habits. But we are seeing a lot of progress now. Roxie is almost 6 months old. I have had her 5 1/2 weeks

| My apartment is all hardwood except for a huge rug in the living room. Since she's been potty trained, she hasn't gone on the rug. When I was in the process of training her, she use to pee on the rug all the time. I use Nature's Miracle to clean her pee spots. I had her potty trained to her washable pee pads in about two weeks and that's mainly because I stayed home from work and watched her like a hawk. When I couldn't watch her, she was in a her "area". To get her to use the pee pads, I bought a spray and sprayed the pee pads.

| I use washable pee pads under regular pee pads, Tricksie hardly ever misses. I just don't want to be washing pee pads 3 times a day. I have one on a rug in my living room and one in our bedroom.

| The joys of training......Mindy is 11 months and Bear is 7 months and they are both fixed. Mindy is 100% trained in our family room but the second she gets upstairs which is usually our fault she will poo on our area rug in our bathroom. She also peed on the area rug in my daughters room and there was a pee pad in there. Bear since he was fixed two weeks ago has not peed in the family room which is huge because that was almost a daily event on the area rug. He will also have accidents if he manages to escape when our heads are turned. So we don't usually let them out unless we are able to watch them. We keep them in a xpen in our family room when we are not around and if we are unable to watch them. Other then that we gate off the family room and they are confined to this area. I do pray that at some point they will be able to be trusted. I use washable pee pads that I ordered from Valenthics. I have about 12 of them and I wash a load once every 6 days or so. So easy and much cheaper. Mine took to the pads right away. I never had to use the old pads over top. I'd like to hear from some of the others that have older dogs, whether they are able to let the dogs have free run of the house without accidents on a daily base?

| our 3 girls have run of the house here where are Most of the time,, but we do lots of weekends back home,(Louisiana),, generally we make the trip home without a potty break for them,(4 hour trip) ,but have puppy pads in the truck floorboard they use if needed,, but just doesnt generally happen,, but as SOON as we get home,, unlock the door and put em down inside,, its RUN to one of pads in the house,, even if its a month or months before we go home next, they know just where to get to,,in Louisiana we're still just putting down paper puppy pads as we're there so much less often,, here in Texas, we're using the washable pads now without the paper pads on top,, (which is what i did for weeks until they knew for sure,, yeah, ,USE THIS),,so,, 3 Yorkies,, age 27 months,, 18 monhts and 22 weeks,, all have no problem,, using washable pad here ,, paper pads in several locations at the house in Louisiana or paper pads in the truck while riding,, as well as always taking paper pads with us if we visit anyone with the girls,, i think we may be lucky on this,, but we just dont have a problem. and i'm a really picky person about dogs potty habits!
