| Yorkies & Kids I am looking for opinions on getting a yorkie. I love these little pups but I have a 12 year old and a 4 year old and Ive read conflicting information on weather or not they are good to have with children. Anybody have any experience with this? |

| The twelve-year-old is fine. I would be concerned with the four-year-old because even if they fall on accident that could mean the death of the Yorkie. I don't think it would be a bad thing to get one with a child that is maybe 6 but they would have to be watched together every minute.

| My BFs children stay with us every summer for 2-3 mos. and we had Buddy (8 mos at the time) last year when his daughter (5) and son (6) came to stay with us. At first Buddy just barked at the kids and then stayed away from them (he was scared of them). After a while they all played together but the kids knew they weren't allowed to pick Buddy up or take toys out of his mouth. (Buddy even nipped BFs son once because he kept trying to take the bone out of his mouth). Now Buddy ignores all small children but will play with them if they have a treat or his toy. I guess it just depends on how you raise your dog and what you teach your kids to do/not do with the dog. Hope that helps!

| I think the problem comes when a yorkie is introduced to kids after the yorkie is grown and has never had the opportunity to grow up around small children. If the yorkie has been around small children since birth, you should have no problems. That's what I've been told anyway. With saying that, I would also say you have to teach children to have respect for the dog, and the dog will have respect for the child. Hope this helps! Donating YT 500 Club Member | My boys are 4 and 5. Guinness runs and plays with them. I have to watch them very closely. Guinness loves to bite toes and my boys think its funny but then if they start running, that isn't okay. So, I make them calm down and if it doesn't work, I separate them LOL They are not to pick him up. I keep an area off limits to the kids so Guinness has an 'out'.

| I have a 15 yr old step son that my boys just adore....And then there is my 14 month old grandbaby....My boys are obsessed with her...The boys sleep under her crib when she takes her naps....Sit under her high chair at meal time...Duh....That would be a given..lol...All the accidental food that gets dropped.... I personally think that each dog is different and it has a lot to do with how they are raised....But in our case, it works beautifully....But I always always watch(monitor) the interaction between the boys and the grandbaby....For both their safety Joyce

| It depends on the kids. If they listen to rules and are respectful of the puppy or not. If they are taught to respect the puppy and not bother him when he's sleeping or eating, and if they obey the "don't carry the puppy" rule, then all shlould be fine. |

| Sammy was raised with kids and she LOVES little girls. I feel bad that we don't have kids for her to play with. As long as the kids can be taught how to not hurt the dog, and to leave it alone when it is sleeping, etc. it will be fine. Get a larger pup - 6+ pounds - and you'll have more success. Sammy is 6lbs and she is still TINY.

| Thank You....Brooklyn is 14 months old...The pediatrician tells us she should have a vocabulary of 10-20 words...Which she does....EVERYTIME she goes to pet one of the dogs...She says Easy Easy over and over as she pets them...If you are holding and petting a dog...She will walk up to you and tell you "Easy Easy"....It is soooo sweet....
