My BFs children stay with us every summer for 2-3 mos. and we had Buddy (8 mos at the time) last year when his daughter (5) and son (6) came to stay with us. At first Buddy just barked at the kids and then stayed away from them (he was scared of them). After a while they all played together but the kids knew they weren't allowed to pick Buddy up or take toys out of his mouth. (Buddy even nipped BFs son once because he kept trying to take the bone out of his mouth). Now Buddy ignores all small children but will play with them if they have a treat or his toy. I guess it just depends on how you raise your dog and what you teach your kids to do/not do with the dog. Hope that helps! |
