| *sigh* Am I asking too much? Please be honest since maybe what I need is a kick in the butt! I have been looking for a yorkie off and on the last year. I say 'off' because sometimes I would get thisclose to getting a yorkie and then the deal would fall through. So I would be sad for the next few weeks before I started looking again. I wonder if what I am looking for is next to impossible? I want a female yorkie that is small (but not sickenly small) preferably black and gold that is within driving distance to pick up from my home in Michigan. Guess the problem is I REALLY can't spend over $1,000 and that is still way more than I should spend. I wanted to use our tax refund and initially set the "puppy budget" at $500. I just keep running into walls. Numerous puppy finding websites out there are scams. Even the ads in the local paper! "Yorkie pups, $375." Then you call and it's "Oh, that puppy sold, but we have a bunch for $1200!" ARGH!!! I know shipping puppies is probably safe, but I would just rather pick it up. It breaks my heart when I think of that lil pup all alone with the luggage in the dark. =( My want for a puppy has gotten so bad, and my patience so short that I have resorted to two things. One (not so bad) is looking at other kinds of dogs, namely poms. They stay pretty small and are cute, and are cheaper than yorkies. Two (super bad and I hate to admit it, but it is the truth) I have actually considered buying from a......PET STORE! I know, right! Puppy mills! But while my mind says no, those puppies are from puppy mills, my heart says, but you can have the 3 pound yorkie in the color of your choice RIGHT NOW for 5 or 6 hundred dollars! I think it has gotten worse because I am working from home now, and although working from home is great (no commute, no dressing up, etc) it can get lonely since there is no interaction. So, do I hold out for the yorkie of my dreams that may never come around? Do I get this adorable small pom puppy that is being offered to me for cheap? Or....do I get a puppy from a pet store? (I know this is not the answer) Sad in Michigan, pickles |

| Now, you know better than to get a puppy from a petstore, and besides, they jack prices up for those puppymill pups. As far as poms, that's all one of my best friends has ever had, and for the most part, they're yappers..when we got to her house,(she has 2), the one never quits barking the whole time we're there, and it's a screeching bark(ear piercing)..as far as flying one, that's an extra $250, so you could add that to what you're wanting to spend..the lady i got my last one from is in Michigan, she's going to be having more pups in March..if you want her name and e-mail, pm me |

| If you really can't change your budget at all, I would go with the pom puppy. Buying from a byb or a puppy mill is a horrible idea if you're looking to save money. The breeder we bought from, we thought was a reputable breeder. Turns out, not so much. Franklin had worms so we had to delay his vaccinations. During this time, he contracted parvo. He is still being hospitalized right now and it's costing us over $1600. So all in all, he has cost us probably upwards of $2500. Bad breeders also contribute to the many yorkies who have liver shunts, luxating patellas, and many other problems. These health issues can cost a TON. I know LP surgery is something like $1500 per leg. It really is worth the money you spend finding a reputable breeder that can guarantee a puppy's health. Good luck in your search.

| Also, with puppy mills and backyard breeders, they can sell you a puppy that will "likely only get to be 3-4 lbs" and end up being over 10lbs. That has happened to MANY YTers. For many of us, size isn't an issue.. but if it is for you, I would be wary of that. Tinier puppies are also unhealthy and more prone to health issues.

| You should really hold out, IMO. You can find a good, healthy yorkie pet for that kind of money, you just need to wait til the right one comes along. There are so many great people on here that you can meet and ask about their dogs and where they got them. Try looking in the regional forums, there are many MI members on Yorkie Talk. Trust me, it will be worth waiting even a year for a good puppy, especially if your healthy pup lives 15 or more years! There is a breeder on here in very northern Ohio, she might be a possibility. Just keep poking around, you are bound to find some of the best of the best breeders of yorkies on this site. Best of luck, and welcome to YT!

| Re: Emma HHA, I have actually contacted Sara regarding Emma. She says she got the dog and it is too small for her 2 year old son. There is also no health guarantee whatsoever. I asked her and she said "The dog is fine, but I will take it to my vet to double check before you come to get her". Now, my Dad/Boss trains and occasionally breeds dogs. (bigger dogs) He didn't like the sound of what she had to say at all. No health guarantee? True, the guarantee might not mean much. But, it is the thought that counts! Also, why did she not think of her son when she got this dog? Obviously, she had the son first. Also, he was wondering, what exactly did the son do to the dog to make her want to get rid of it? And, where is the dog being kept now? Locked in a room? He suggested I stay away from that one and wait for a breeder. Also, I know pet stores are a no-no, but they are extremely appealing when you have been waiting a long time for your new friend. |

| Pet stores are tempting. I got Chewy at one. I knew nothing of puppy mills at the time. So far he has been very healthy. To my surprise he is only 5.2 pounds... the store thought he would be bigger. He cost a lot... we don't have cheap pet stores here... you pay as much or more then a breeder. Again I knew NOTHING!!! Pet stores are not good places to go to get your puppy but not all puppies are sick that come from them. It breaks my heart to think where he came from. We got our little girl pup from a breeder. We love them both the same. Good luck getting your baby, i'm sure the right one will come along.

| Take your time to find the perfect one it is the first thing you can give your new puppy. So many people only think of the fantasy of owning a pet and not the reality. I think that is where a good breeder will ask the hard questions to insure that puppy will have a forever home. It is expensive to own even a healthy yorkie. It seems everytime I go to the vet it is a few hundred dollars. Good Luck in your search!

| I'm sure the right dog will come along...it took me a few years to get Teddi (and then she ends up having a liver shunt!). I wouldn't try to get the cheapest dog you can find. I think a lot of dogs are really you get what you pay for and there is a reason some are so cheap. It's great that you are on this site. I didn't even know about yorkietalk until I had Teddi for a few months. I'm sure you will be able to fine one through here. The other thing about the dogs that are cheap....it usually ends up being a scam. If it seems like a great deal and it's too good to be true - it is!

| Welcome to yt and good luck on your search. I don't know much since Murfee is my first yorkie but even when people say that a yorkie will be small it doesn't always mean that it will be. I was lucky with Murfee. My son and dil bought him for me at a flea market for $500. He is 5 lbs and so far VERY healthy and the love of my life.

| Thanks everyone for reassuring me to try and wait it out. I did put another call into Emma's owner to ask some more questions. I will post an update after I speak with her. =) |

| Your "little puppy" from a puppy mill will probably be significantly more than the 3 pounds you are looking for and, trust me when I say this, the initial amount you pay for your yorkie is NOTHING compared to the medical bills that can pile up on a sick yorkie. I would really rethink the petstore puppy.
