| Which one do you prefer??? A Standard Yorkie or Beiwer (sp?) Dont get me wrong, I think Beiwers are beautiful but I prefer the standard Yorkie........To me the beiwer looks too much like a maltese ................I was just wondering what everyone thought. Is the Beiwer a Yorkie or a mix? I need to read more about the breed........I was just thinking about the overall look If someone gave me a bewier(which I know will never happen) I would take it in a heart beat

| Although I think that Biewers are beautiful, I still prefer the look of the traditional Yorkie, too. Did you know that Biewers are a separate breed from Germany? I have learned so much here on YT! |

I didn't know that they are a separate breed.......because I haven't read too much about them, I do however think that they look different in a lot of ways. I think they look more like maltese

| Well, I have 2 yorkies and 1 biewer, and I had a biewer I sold and that's when I got my 2nd yorkie. The one I sold was beautiful, but, she was 5 1/2 mos. and I could never get her to use the pee pad(all my others are trained to the pad), so, sold her to a wonderful lady..My little guy (biewer) is grat, has a wonderful personality, and yes, he does look a lot like a maltese, and his ears aren't up, but, I could never made a decision of the two if I had to pick..I love them both, and one day, i want to add another biewer to the family, just not right now, maybe when the prices come down.. |

| I thought (and this is even owning one), that a biewer was conceived by 2 yorkies(pie bald gene), which in all acutality, would make them the same dog, just different colors..? |

| I like them both, If I were able to add another pup to my family it would be an IBC registered Biewer. I don't think you can really compare the 2 when their coloring is so totally different. I was actually going to get a Biewer when I got my last pup but ended up with a chocolate colored yorkie. I'm not going to breed or show my dogs so I just get them cause they are darn cute

| Yes, if that were the case they are still a Yorkie. There is a long thread in the breeders section right now about this. Some people aren't convinced that parti Yorkies or Biewers are purebred Yorkie at all because the Yorkie is thought not to carry the piebald gene. I don't know much about genetics and I don't know the answer to this...just stating facts.

Biewers started with 2 Yorkies, so whether you agree or disagree about them being a separate breed, they will have similarities. "Mr Biewer" decided he liked the look and started breeding for it. http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/biewer.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biewer Still not accepted by the AKC as a separate breed but you can do a search on here and read lots of posts about them. | |

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | There appears to be a genetic difference--but I will have to see where I read that--genetic Test site for identifying dogs for shelters, maybe. And while the tale is 2 pie-bald yorkies, it should be able to be recreated today--with the 4 white legs, tail, chest, chin all being white and 2-3 colors in the face--and can be reproduced from a pair of yorkies with the gene... |
