Are the smaller ones harder to potty train?
THe only tiny one that I have been around was very hyper and his owner couldn't get him potty trained. Also, he wouldn't make eye contact with me when I snuggled him - is this aloof attitude a yorkie trait?

They definitely all have their own personalities. I got Sugar as an adult so I can't comment on training with him. My daughters dog Spike is 5 lbs. He was terribly hard to train but is a total lovebug. Gracie is 8 or 9 lbs and was far easier to train but is very aloof. I don't think their personality or ease of training can be related to size.

I never went into this whole amazing world of Yorkie ownership wanting a "tiny", "teacup", "dollface","teddybear", etc... and after living with my little baby Tino, a very healthy 7 pound boy, we were blessed with Lolita, a little lady who was "supposed" to be at least 4 pounds, but just never got there.

She is a beautiful, healthy almost 3 pounds gal and I take it upon myself to use the attention we get from her size and cuteness to educate people on the truths about there being no such things as teacups, and the dangers and health risks of tiny dogs!

I see it as a blessing in disguise that although she is tiny, she is healthy and she has a Mommy who loves her so much that she has no problems with speaking up on the subject to whoever will listen

In my experience potty training is not predicated on size....but, stubborness.

My pups are piddle pad trained by their dams before the leave my house. Retraining must be done when they go home. You have to teach them you have a new spot for them to go.....

I've had some that I've brought home and they're trained within 24 hours.

Now I do have a girl that I brought home weighed 3 1/2 pounds at one year.....she is 6 years old and now weighs 6 pounds....amazing huh?, she's not fat....just grew.

Just an observation here--not a flame or insult for anyone. When I was growing up we had German Shepherd. I thought a small dog was cocker spaniel size or smaller. I have my teapot Yorkie 12#, a 10.5# Havanese and Biewers of all sizes and weights. I still think my Yorkie is a small dog.

No insult taken...when I was growing up I had large dogs too, and my aunt had a Yorkie I was very afraid of!!!! How the tables hae turned, now I couldn't image my life without my little pumpkins! I guess being around my 7 pound boy makes my almost 3 pound girl just seem "smaller".

All I can say is those prices are ridiculous..I would never pay that kind of money, and people should STOP paying those prices, then they would either be stuck with a bunch of puppies or they would have to lower their prices..those prices don't mean those pups are going to live any longer than the beautiful ones we're paying anywhere from $500-$1500 for...If they could gurantee they would live to be 20 years old, then I would consider one, but, that just makes me sick the way these people put those kind of price tags on these innocent little babies...

Muffin would look me directly in the eye and so will Kacee. In fact, the first time I held Kacee, when I looked down at her she was looking me straight in the eye. Wish I had a picture of that, but she still looks at me the same way.

My Mia weighs 6 pounds and my Max weighs 7. I can tell the difference when I pick them up. So I can you imagine picking up a 1.5 pound baby fully grown? I think the reason why everyone likes the little ones is because they remind us of puppies. Everyone loves a puppy. They are all cute but my gosh... it's almost like trying to keep them like a preemie.

People will continue paying those prices as long as they remain uneducated, then that is what we are here for.

That is exactly what I tell people who want a very small one like my Lil Bit I tell them it is terrible, its like having a preemie baby

their life depending on your every move and taking up most of your day just making sure he is OK.
It is not a great thing.

Wow, I've never felt that nervous with Sugar. That does sound rough. I got Sugar at 18 months and he wasn't quite 3 pounds. I was used to watching where I step from our other 2 yorkies and other than not allowing him to jump off of furniture, I see no difference in his care than my 9 pounder.

edit to add- actually my 9 pounder has LP and SHOULDN'T be jumping off furniture either- just can't always catch her in time. Sugar can't jump up so it's actually easier.

I dont feel that nervous with Max either...I see him as very strong and sturdy.

Iam a tad bit more nervous with molly, she is my biggest jumper and the most wild child ever

my friend just told me yesterday that her friend bought a boy and he is 11mths and 1.5, wow thats small. dont know details, didnt ask, just said wow I hope she knows about the breed
