They definitely all have their own personalities. I got Sugar as an adult so I can't comment on training with him. My daughters dog Spike is 5 lbs. He was terribly hard to train but is a total lovebug. Gracie is 8 or 9 lbs and was far easier to train but is very aloof. I don't think their personality or ease of training can be related to size.
