| Potty training woes; PLEASE HELP! I feel so dumb for asking, since I've done it before but I seem to have lost my knack after 7 years. I cannot potty train Lexie for the life of me! She pees if you bring her outside, but she won't tell you when she has to go and she isn't going in one spot even so we can't watch for if she starts sniffing in one particular spot. I'm totally miffed on what to do! Beau potty trained himself by going outside with our other dog, and he would just pee over the spot our old dog would pee but Lexie doesn't mark so that doesn't work this time around! My mom is starting to stress out because I have to go back to school on January 14th and we were hoping to have her MOSTLY potty trained by then. When we had Beau he was fully potty trained after a week and a half. If I take her out every 30 minutes she will go, but she doesn't act like she has to go until it is too late. I can't watch for her to start sniffing because she is CONSTANTLY sniffing around. She will be playing like nuts, then all of a sudden she will squat, pee, then run around again. There is no warning until its over. We were told she was pee pad trained so we have pee pads all over thinking that if she has to pee, she will use them. Well that isn't how it works. She will SLEEP on them, but not pee. She will pee on my mom's area rugs or our carpeting. (Occasionally on the hardwood too.) Beau acts differently before he has to pee, but Lexie doesn't. What am I doing wrong or not doing at all?!? PLEASE HELP!!!!

| I would use crate training and bells. Crate her for a couple of hours. Take her to the door, help her ring the bells, then take her outside. If she goes, praise her, give her a treat, then play in the yard or take her inside to play. If she does not go, return her to the crate and try again every hour or so until she does go, then praise and play. Eventually she should associate the bells with going outside to pee.

| I can't complain at all with Ginger, she's 20 weeks now, and has been pee pad trained without any accidents to speak of, in probably over 4 weeks..she uses the pee pads very well, and she has an xpen(I really don't care for crate training jmo), and the only thing she hasn't mastered is to get the poop on the pad, she goes in the laundry room and not on the carpet though, so I'm okay with that(she does hit it occasionally)..good luck, I know it can get very frustrating at times.. |

| I had to take Chloe out to potty every 30-45 minutes when she was really little. If she went potty I would praise her and give her a treat, and if she didn't go potty she would go in a gated off area or kennel for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes I would take her outside again and then she would either get a treat or go back into kennel. Repeat process until she goes. Once she started getting older I was able to extend the time between potty breaks. She is now 6 months old and we still have our occassional accidents. Maybe once a week. It just takes time, a lot of work, and even more praise!!! The praise is super important...have a pee pee party. Yippee! I also avoided the potty pads because I didn't want her to think it was okay to go inside the house even on a potty pad. Some people disagree with this though. I pretty much figured that I would have to clean the carpet anyways, so let's not start a bad habit. |

| I can feel your frustration. I'm having no luck with Bear and Mindy either. They are 100% trained on the pee pad when they are in their xpen but the minute they are out they will pee and poo anywhere and everywhere. I now use a belly band and diaper. Mindy is awesome of course with the diaper but Bear will poop every time. They both also will pee in their diaper and bellyband. My husband says they are the cutest but not the smartest.
