I had to take Chloe out to potty every 30-45 minutes when she was really little. If she went potty I would praise her and give her a treat, and if she didn't go potty she would go in a gated off area or kennel for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes I would take her outside again and then she would either get a treat or go back into kennel. Repeat process until she goes. Once she started getting older I was able to extend the time between potty breaks. She is now 6 months old and we still have our occassional accidents. Maybe once a week. It just takes time, a lot of work, and even more praise!!! The praise is super important...have a pee pee party. Yippee!
I also avoided the potty pads because I didn't want her to think it was okay to go inside the house even on a potty pad. Some people disagree with this though. I pretty much figured that I would have to clean the carpet anyways, so let's not start a bad habit. |
