Backyard Breeder??

I agree with everything you said. There are some people on here that think unless you show, you are a backyard breeder. Well, if only some people knew some of these show breeders are little more than puppymills themselves. I say that because recently I heard of one very well known one that has anywhere from 60-70 dogs. You can be sure the small hobby breeder does put more thought and consideration into breeding stock than someone that has 60-70 dogs outside in a kennel. I was told tonight that I was called a backyard breeder because i came on Yt soley for the purpose of selling dogs. The person that said that would have known I didn't even have a dog when I joined YT if she had checked her facts before she sent a pm around accusing me of being a BYB, BTW, that pm was forwarded right to me.. I joined in August 2005, got Ceeby in october, Got my first female in January and had my first litter of pups in late August a year after I joined YT. and didn't even sell those puppies on here. it never ceases to amaze me the garbage people will pass around in pm's they think are private without even checking to see if they have their facts straight. I even did a search on myself tonight to see if I remembered the facts correctly.

This sounds more like a puppy mill type, I rescued My Maggie from something like that. She was used for breeding only and kept in a cage most of the time.
She was to old to have any more puppies
She is only 4 yrs and the vet said she has had alot of litters. for her age. she is spayed now. no more babies for her
However I bought Sissy from a Hobby Breeder, she was very muched loved while liveing there. This where I would buy another from a hobby breeder.

I feel like you i got my little girl from i guess its a hobby breeder.. She only let her girl have one litter of puppies.. Now she is fixed.. She loved those puppies and had the hardest time letting go of them when it came time for them to go to there new homes.. And she turned down many people until she picked ones who were worth owning a lil baby... Like Mi... someone offered her 1500$ for her even though i was only payin 750$... some of these "backyard breeders" or other breedes im sure would have been more then happy to sell her.. But she refused the women and i have my little one!!!

I have a very narrow view on what a reputable breeder is. In my opinion a breeder should be showing to be considered reputable (or at the very least have their breeding dogs evaluated by a breeder or judge very knowledgeable of the YT standard).

However, being a show breeder does not guarantee that they are reputable. So showing does NOT always equal reputable. But to me reputable means they are showing or involved in something depending on what they breed (ie. hunting, sledding, working dogs, etc.). But there is a LOT more to being reputable than just showing. To find a reputable breeder, you need to ask a lot of questions (and be expected to be asked a lot of questions in return).

This is what i dislike about pm's here. People who have sold their puppies here on YT, you just don't know what people are stating about you and it can ruin your reputation. You were very lucky to have someone forward you that message but most do not have it forward to them so they have no idea what is being said behind their backs.
I have even received pm's (not so nice) about the show breeders. My reply to them is ..."get a life, i do not respond to hateful gossip".

That's why you won't be seeing any more of my babies listed on here. I am done. It was just someone trying to discredit me because they didn't even care enough about what they were spreading to realize it could easily be checked by going to my profile and pulling up my old threads. problem is, the people it was spread to didn't bother checking either. They just kept spreading it. I think my join date is on page 9.

Showing your dogs does not automaticaly make you a good breeder. Anyone can show their dogs, but to actually have dogs that are good enough to win, means that you have done your research and have either purchased dogs that measure up to the standard, or that you have been researching and breeding dogs that are within the standard and that you have produced nice dogs that fall within the written standard of your breed. It takes time learn about the breed you are interested in, and what to watch out for in health issues.
